- Helen E2 contributionsSharlot Hall museum tells the story of Prescott and its historic culture in so many interesting ways. There are 10 buildings and beautiful grounds to explore. Many of the buildings had docents who were so knowledgeable and friendly. Learning from them was a highlight of my visit!! Highly recommend!!Written 9 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JAM_Traveler3Pennsylvania81 contributionsPrescott is a charming town with lots to do and see for the outdoor adventurers to the Wild West historians plus those who love an artsy influence.
We enjoyed many hikes, but enjoyed Whiskey Town and the reading about this history and culture. It is definitely a must see… take your time and enjoy the shops, restaurants, and parks. Make sure you stop at The Palace for a drink and a wonderful meal.
There are a lot of events happening around Whiskey Row and many fine local rentals. We recommend Historic District - COZY 2 Bedroom Farmhouse in Prescott AZ through Air B n B . This lovely Farmhouse is just a few blocks down from Whiskey Row.
There is also a wonderful Italian place called Rosa’s Pizzeria!Written 17 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 792burtgArizona99 contributionsTemperature was about 15 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The nights were down in the 60s. The campsites are clean and level. The fire pit worked great. It is an easy walk down to the lake. The campsites are set in a beautiful pine forest.Written 7 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alyosha666Chicago, IL487 contributionsNice small zoo with a variety of mostly local wildlife. Looks like it gets a lot of love from local school and day camp kids. It was a hot day when we went but we still saw most of the animals. Tarantula Grotto, snake shed, and tortoises were highlights.Written 8 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim W.Atlanta, GA1,152 contributionsWe arrived here before 11 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The trailhead is located about 2 - 3 miles from Prescott, just off a main highway. There is a sizeable parking lot which charges $3 per day. There is also a bike repair station and restrooms at the trailhead.
We walked for about an hour. You first head downhill to the lake level and spend the first 1/3 mile or so getting to the lake. You then hike along the lake until a spur trail offers the opportunity to hug the shoreline and scramble over some rocks. It wasn't too challenging, but it was also not a completely level trail.
The scenery is nice - the lake, odd boulder formations, occasional wildlife (including a bald eagle!), some ranchers fixing a fence just off one trail, and a fair number of bikers (both manual and electric) on the main trail.
This was a worthwhile stop and we all enjoyed our hike here.Written 2 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DogDoggieWorldWide674 contributionsFantastic experience at Goldwater Lake. Took a short hike with my dog...we both loved it. Easy access from Prescott. - LTTTucson, AZ207 contributionsStopped by at the recommendation of a friend. Not a big fan of western art but this little museum was worth the stop. Not just kachinas...had a short term photography exhibit which was very interesting. The permanent exhibits taught me things I didn't know. Well worth the stop.Written 19 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Luv2TravelFarNWideAtenas, Costa Rica1,378 contributionsWe got lucky and hiked the Thumb Butte area the day before they closed Prescott & Coconino National Forests due to fire danger. They were evicting campers & hikers, and cancelling future camping reservations. Be sure to check before you go.
However, after a long morning hike we could see why -- the ground is cracked and dry, the forest is brown. Prescott desperately needs rain.
Once it reopens, its worth a visit if you like to hike. Lots of trails and unless you insist on doing one of the super popular ones, you won't see many people.
NOTE: There is a $5 day pass fee collected in the parking lots. Be prepared with correct change and a pencil to write with; you must leave your receipt on your dashboard.Written 2 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Left hand side of trail is paved to the top but is steeper than the non paved path to the right. Side trail near the top is worth it for the fantastic view of Prescott and the surrounding area.Written 30 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
