What travellers are saying
- PH-Travel-LoversAda, MI665 contributionsA cool little town right by the water. Easy parking.
We walked a little ways then grabbed a tram the optional 3/4 miles out to the ocean.
The little area on the beach had a restaurant and nice bathrooms.
Beaches are wonderful.
We walked back instead of taking the little tram.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ReviewerHSEdinburgh, UK101 contributionsEnjoyed the potted history of Tavira and the unusual view of the town through the lens. Presenter very knowledgable and entertaining but spoke very quickly and it was over in a flash! Well worth a visit though, particularly at the beginning of your trip.Written 3 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mayo WSt. Albans, UK96 contributionsThis is a Beautiful church on a hillside going up from the Praca de Republica. It has the most beautiful Azjuelo tiles all around the walls telling bible stories. A lovely 18 th century wooden organ loft.Written 11 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Travelbuff82San Francisco, CA130 contributionsA short ferry ride to Costa Beach is well worth your while when you're staying in Tavira.
Costa beach is on Tavira Island. It's clean with crystal clear waters, located within the Natural Park of the Ria Formosa.
You can rent loungers and cost is based on the proximity of the lounger to the water. Even the furthest lounger from the water isn't bad. All are close enough. Very reasonable cost for a day use.
The beach is safe and clean, water is relatively calm, and the beach stretches as far as your eyes can see.
There are numerous restaurants available. Leaving your belongings unattended while you get something to eat was not a problem. They also had Thai massages available.

- Stuart B4 contributionsWe had a wonderful time (around 90 minutes) playing with the exhibits and tests; our guide Maria was terrific at engaging our daughter (age three and a half) and spoke brilliant English (although I did try some Portuguese!)
Lots of fun and thoroughly recommended for young children to get out of the heat and learn about some of the science behind the displays.Written 14 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tinkle_24Northampton, UK1,770 contributionswith its Arabic style clock tower. White washed and rather majestic seen from either side of river. Castle ruins a stone’s throw away and great pics of the Church from castle tower.Written 19 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rob AOlhao, Portugal805 contributionsWe went to a concert here and it was pretty crowded. The interior decoration is worth seeing - is it baroque? The paintings are huge and some were a bit ropey. The statue above the high altar of St Sebastian is rather odd - the left arm seems wholly out of proportion. But is one is interested in Portuguese ecclesiastical architecture and the art these buildings contain, then this is a must.
I have to confess I want to know how one gets into the pulpit - perhaps a secret passage leads there from the sacristy.Written 23 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
