A wonderful and safe drive to the top of Mount Wellington, and down again.
A beautiful road, excellent scenery, sufficient parking at the top, but very few parking bays on the way up / down.
Some short but good paths around the top, and wonderful viewpoints.
But it can be very windy at the top.

Glorious gardens in a beautiful setting. The scenic sections provided lots of opportunities for family photos and a bride and groom on the day of our visit; lots of safe, open lawns for small children. For plant lovers, top quality, especially the focus on native species. Spectacular bird-life.

    Must do in Hobart
An easy walk from Elizabeth street
Plenty of stalls and 99% of stall holders are great
We were there for hours and then wandered around the town
Would return and recommend this to anyone

Our guide Angela was informative and knowledgeable. The way the audio-visual aspects are integrated into the tour is very well executed. Preservation work is very well done. We well and truly felt we got our money's worth on this tour. Highly recommended.

The ferry/boat leaves from the main pier in Hobart, the reason you ride the boat is to go back and forth from Hobart to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) that resides 25 minutes up the river in a Hobart suburb. The MONA reviews are not found in the Hobart section so please look it up. The museum is the primary thing one should plan on seeing if they are in Hobart for a day as it is World Class and unlike any high-end museum in the world in its choice of collections.

Loved this, I’m fascinated by Antarctica and the motivations for exploring such an inhospitable place.

A great account of Mawson and his team’s journey into an unknown place. A mix of triumphant survival and terrible loss.

Documents, photos, film, all added to the experience and the replica hut was brilliant allowing the briefest glimpse of their lives, the things they had with them (some surprising, such as a gramophone!) and the relationships between the team.

Also enjoyed speaking to the volunteer who answered questions and gave his own narrative.

The tour of this wonderful house by Heather was fascinating. Heather has the most incredible knowledge of the history of the families who lived there and the whole tour was enthralling. It is a definate must-see for anyone visiting Hobart as an interesting counterpoint to the various convict sites.

I do not know what to say. We did a 1 hour guided tour - Mark was our guide and we had a group of around 20 people. The tour and his commentary was exceedingly moving. How they have marked on the ground with pavers and gravel the rooms etc. is haunting.
Incredibly moving is the wall with the names of mothers who gave birth, names and ages of the children many of whom died very young.
I can't say more than this was incredibly moving and well worth it.

Great ground floor exhibition on the history of aboriginal peoples in Tasmania, but not much in the way of aboriginal art. Excellent fauna exhibits and information.

We were staying at Battery Point and enjoyed the sculpture trail. It was a pleasant walk that provided an insight into the history of the area. Two great pieces of trivia were sculptures 313 - number of boats launched in the 1800s from Battery Point shipyards and 1909 - the year Errol Flynn birth at Sandy Bay. A further benefit was the option to stop for a coffee in Battery Point and a drink at Salamanca.

There are many ways to get to the lookout, signal station, and fabulous retaurant atop Mt Nelson, but walking the Truganini Track (about 2kms) from Cartright reserve on Sandy Bay Road is one of the best. It's a relaxing leafy experience with an abundance of birds. Moderate fitness is required as it climbs 300 metres. As a mid-70's couple we found it reasonably challenging, but we enjoyed a fabulous meal break at the restaurant, and an even more welcome coffee on completion. Note the Cartright reserve coffee van is not always open. We have marked this experience down from 5 star to 4 as the track needs some repair, with many of the steps getting old and by-passed. The slight downmark to this experience is about the state of the track. NOT a negative reflection on the interest of the signal station, or the restaurant. The staff and food there are top-notch. Having visited signal stations in the north of the State, Port Dalrymple (Georgetown), Mt. Direction (also a great walk), and Windmill Hill (Launceston), we can say that the information and historical memoribilia displayed at Mt Nelson is easily the best. Highly recommended.
