What travellers are saying
- Tom MHobart, IN53 contributionsI had been looking forward to this visit for almost two years, and it did not disappoint. Not nearly as crowded as the Partnachklamm, this is an amazing hike through a beautiful gorge.Written 17 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The visitors Oberstdorfer card has no discount on the bus. The journey must have been 1/2 an hour travelling through some wonderful scenery.
Arriving at the Gondel station, we found prices for adults are 25€ return or up and down. But if you have the Card which is given to visitors who stay overnight in hotels, then the lift is FREE.
Arriving up on top at 1,946m. you have the opertunity to walk up to the Cross at the summit, Walmendingerhorn at 1,199mt. There is a cafe and Souvenier shop with a sun bathing area with deckchairs.
From here you can go wandering in the mountains, but becarefull mountains are dangerous when wet.
When you look North from the cross you are looking at German mountain, to the right Austrian and to the left Swiss mountains, you can see the 3 countries from one paroramic view. I was interested in the wild mountain flowers where their are 100 varieties. In June there is the red mountain rose, but as it was late August, most flowers had died leaving some wonderfull seed pods with a few flowers as well.
Catching the bus back to Oberstdorf, we stopped off the bus at Hirschegg, a Hirsch is a large deer, did you know they laid eggs. I didnt either. We then went to a cafe by the church before returning to our Hotel. You can stop at any bus stops and then get back on another bus if you see something interesting.Written 31 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We went to see the ladies championship, and allthough it rained all the time we were there, it was a great event. These people are mad! Why would you voluntarily jump off that hill?
We enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the place and some of the refreshments on offer. We were told that it might be expensive to eat/drink but this not the case, very reasonable.
If you get the chance, give it a go (World Championships next year!).Written 12 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Rewarded with food and a picturesque view at the end.Written 29 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Traveller87987687Bangkok, Thailand3,110 contributionsThe only ways to get to the hamlet Einödsbach, located in the Stillach valley (Stillachtal), are on foot or by bicycle. But you can get near the place by public transport. A bus from Oberstdorf goes all the way to Birgsau, a small village, a 45 minute hike from Einödsbach.
The closest you can get with your own car is the large parking lot at the Fellhorn cable car station. From there you can take the bus, or hike…or go by bicycle. No private cars are allowed beyond this point.
The way from Oberstdorf is well developed and mostly flat. Only the last kilometre leads up a moderate slope along a gorge created by the river Stillach, until you reach the 5 or 6 buildings that form the hamlet Einödsbach.
After visiting the Loretto chapels, we found accidentally on our way, we parked our car at the “Heini Klopfer ski flying hill” and integrated it into our walking tour. It adds another hour to the way. We went up the hill with the two elevators, enjoyed the view from the top and started the trekking at the exit of the middle station, where the coffee bar is located. You can also hike up the hill next to the jumping hill to reach the coffee bar, and save the money for the elevator. From there just follow the signs. The first one announces 2¼ hours to Einödsbach.
After arriving in the hamlet you can visit the saint Katharina chapel and have a meal at the mountain inn (Berggasthof Einödsbach). Check their website for opening days & times.
Einödsbach is the gateway to a number of mountain tours and the nice afternoon stroll comes to an end here. If you decide to move any further into the mountains, the trip should be planned well ahead.
Note that for hikes beyond that point you need to be well equipped for you are entering alpine mountain regions.
BTW: The literal translation of the name Einödsbach is “Wasteland stream” or “Small Stream in the Wasteland”.Written 10 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Richard STrowbridge, UK10 contributionsBoth our new skier - aged 11 and an English only speaker and our four teenagers found their instructors very good and advanced their skiing over five days of lessons.
Kit we hired was first class too and school location is very close to main Nebelhorn Lift so we didn't have far to walk in our ski boots with all our clobber if we went up this main hill. Indeed with three linked cable cars taking you right through to the highest summit in the resort you didn't really need to go anywhere else. Except that our novice was taken over to the lower Sollereck slopes and we wanted to experience other slopes ourselves you could happily stay on the Nebelhorn all week.Written 28 February 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Brotzeit Teller and Schwetgen Kuchen surprisingly good! Well worth the effort on this trek which could have gone on for longer but we didn't go further.Written 29 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
