A beautiful Byzantine-era church with stunning mosaics. Pick your time well to avoid the tour groups and appreciate the incredible artistry and atmosphere. It really is the most incredible place.

The plain exterior of this mausoleum belies the splendor that you encounter upon entry. The walls and ceiling are covered with elegant, naturalistic mosaics. The starry sky is said to have inspired Night and Day.

If you are looking to get combo tickets to visit several of the mosaic sites, this is the place to get them as it is far less busy than the No1 site Basilica di San Vitale. You also get a decent map. The mosaics themselves are literally breathtaking – the narrative Biblical story and the processions of saints in two different artistic styles, though only a few years apart in construction, are so beautiful that it is hard to put into words. Try if possible to avoid large party group visits as it would not enhance your experience and I guess it may not be the same if the sun was not shining (we had a mid-morning visit)

This park has very unusual restrictions on the kids rides… you not only have to meet a height restriction to ride (usual) but also an age restriction too… every single ride the staff asked me how old are your kids… well of course I could just make up whatever number I liked! How would they know? This is the strangest way of regulating safety onboard rides that I’ve ever come across, I’ve never seen that in a theme park anywhere before. I can totally understand height restrictions… but age?! Also, if your under 3… don’t bother: there is nothing here for you apart from a playground (which is crazy too, because half of it is not accessibly by parents so it’s totally unsafe!) you might be 90cm… but wait your not 3 years old so there’s noway you can ride this incredibly slow; barely moving carousel or farmyard train… again totally absurd! Even worse, if your not 3 yet but 101cm tall… you have to pay full price to enter and you can’t ride on anything at all, not even when accompanied by a full paying adult, who is usually your parent, and wouldn’t let you ride anything that’s too big/fast/scary anyway.
They also would not let my 120cm daughter ride some very tame rides alone (there was me and 2 kids and my younger one was napping, so she had no choice but to ride alone) because she was under 8 years old.. come on! Mirabilandia really needs to update your policy about ride restrictions, make them simpler and more rides open to younger kids. I can’t comment on all the rides as I couldn’t go on most of them due to having little kids with me, but there looked to be a couple of good thrill rides.
The other gripe I had was on entry, we must’ve turned up at a popular time, and it took 30 mins just to drive into the car park. It would’ve been so much better if a couple of turnstiles had pre paid entry, so you can pay parking online and scan a code on arrival or something. That definitely needs updating.
Other than that we had a good day: the hot wheels show was incredible, and something I’ve never seen before. The Nickelodeon show was a bit poor and boring, and could’ve been a lot more inventive, and in a better location than a sweaty tent too. The photos were a good price, 6 euros or 3 for 15€.
We took a picnic with us, but the food looked ok actually… lots of people saying over priced on reviews, but I saw hotdogs for less than 5 euros, they had a Mac Donald’s and a sushi place doing poke bowls for about 9 euros which I’d say is average for Italy really, you always expect to pay a little More in these places anyway.
We visited midweek early September it was very busy but closed at 6pm which was a shame as the weather only just started cooling down. And not all drink/ice cream stands were open.
The toilets could’ve been better maintained but there was plenty around, and we never had to wait throughout the day.
I almost bought season passes online before we went; but I’m glad I didn’t because of ride regulations and also queues for entry.

This building is the Baptistery of Neon, named for Bishop Neon when the building was constructed in the 5th century. The original church to which the baptistery was joined was destroyed, although the extant baptistery now sits on the grounds of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The baptistery has an octagonal plan, alternately rectilinear and apsidal sides, pierced at the top by a round arched window and underground doors. The interior is quite compact and the walls are richly adorned with mosaics. The dominant mosaic is on the ceiling depicting the baptism of Jesus by St. John the Baptist. The scene is in the centre of the ceiling showing Jesus standing waist high in the Jordan River with. Zeus as personification of the river. Arranged in an outer circle is a procession of the twelve apostles.

The ceiling dome sits on semi domes, supported by a pendentive with the walls and corners just as beautifully decorated with mosaics. Most of these are of saints, surrounded by foliage on a deep blue background.

This building is an amazing way to enjoy early Chritian art in a compact space.

A nice tribute to a great author. The tomb cannot be entered, only viewed from behind a gate. There is a nice garden area to walk around/sit and reflect. At the time I was there, they also had a Dante "museum" where they showed paintings, photos, sculptures, and other artistic interpretations of Dante and his works. It was interesting to view, didn't take up much time (maybe 15 minutes total) and it was free. To be honest, Ravenna doesn't have a whole lot to do, so this is something to consider if you need to fill up some time.

We have wanted to visit all the sites in Ravenna that have the mosaics for several years. They exceeded our expectations and our expectations were very high. The mosaics are stunning and the combined ticket is very reasonably priced.

As I arrived at the museum I discovered that I had accidentally booked online for February rather than March so my ticket had expired. The two young women at the ticket office were so friendly and helpful and contacted the manager so that my ticket could be authorised and used. Thank you so much for being so kind.

Safari is a really cool experience, you get to see zebras, camels, alpacas, tigers and lions up close. The zoo part, however, is a bit neglected and could be a bit more updates. Also the smell in the closed areas, like raptors and such, was horrible.

Worth reading up on Ravenna's imperial history before you come, so you appreciate just WHY this is the Arian baptistry, as opposed to the catholic foundations - it's all to do with Goths and Theodoric! It's interesting to be able to spot the subtle, but important, differences in the iconography used in the mosaics.

This is a small but stunning museum. The quality of the mosaics in situ on the floors her are better than any other I've ever seen - and I've seen a few. It won't take much of your time, but it's well worth it.

This church was built during the 10th-11th centuries, and it is known for having been the place of Dante Alighieri's funeral in 1321. It is close to the poet's tomb.

The church itself is not very interesting, but the crypt under the main altar is: it is flooded by sea water, but the floor mosaics are still visible, with several fishes swimming above them (you need a one-Euro coin to turn the lights on).

This is the main square in Ravenna and one time political and religious centre of administration. The Ravenna Town Hall still stands on the western end of the square. The square is surprisingly compact for such a prominent location. Several of the city landmarks are in this location including the two columns, Palazzo Apostolico, the former headquarters of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro and Palazzo dei Rasponi del Sale. Beautiful place.
