What travellers are saying
- PunkHong Kong174 contributionsI always wonder why people are walking so slowly on the bridge and catch the rail so carefully, because it does not look so dangerous. But you will feel differently when you are walking on it, try it yourself.
Written 23 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is pretty and you experience two bridges! We met only a handful of people during our mid afternoon visit. There is no facility (food/restaurant) closeby. From here, we continued to scarecrow village and all the way to Iya valley proper.Written 24 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KodoDrummerBuenos Aires, Argentina65,207 contributionsA lot of white-water runs through Oboke and Koboke’s narrow canyons, which have steep mountainsides. This makes it a great place for whitewater rafting. The 5th day of the 5th lunar month is a festival for Japanese boys, There are boys' families with outdoor flags, using the carp flag instead of the stream, in the hope that boys can make a good start, in the future to "carp jump the dragon door". This is the Grand Canyon in Tokushima Prefecture, full of carp.Written 19 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rosco49Perth, Australia474 contributionsAs you drive thru the village every where you look is a”scarecrow” dummy modelled on people & families from the area.
The effigies (scarecrows) have a striking resemblance to the people they portray with many & varied poses.Written 11 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Taxis for a full day hire are not very expensive. It is a full day though rather than a day trip so you should stay at a local ryokan but it is really enjoyable to nature lovers that prefer to see things by car or bus rather than trekking.Written 29 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hawk HSuita, Japan38 contributionsPeaceful among the Cedars and Cypress Trees. Unpenji has 500 Arhat States that it is famous for, made in recent years, they line some of the pathways, all with different faces and postures. Beautiful place.Written 2 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kiwiabroad60Arrowtown, New Zealand58 contributionsSmall country station with a minimum of facilities but the people here are just so friendly and helpful. The local tourist rep lady who operates at the station will put you on the right bus or train as you require. Will tell the bus drivers where to drop you because in this area not many people have a knowledge of English.Written 1 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KC930Hong Kong, null, Hong Kong86 contributionsI took the bus here - tour books say to get off at the nearby school but it looks like quite a walk from there. So I followed the tourist information centre's bus schedules and got off at Ochiai Bridge (落合橋). However I realised a slightly closer stop - if all you want to do (and have time to do) like me is to check out the view point at the top of the opposite mountain - you should get off at Ochiai (落合) and follow Google Map which will take you via the bridge to the other side of the river and up a fairly steep hill. It's a paved road with few/ no cars, so not that difficult to walk on. However the paved road stops just underneath the view point (where people with cars can get to) and so I just climbed up the grassfield a bit just before it gets too steep and slippery and took pictures from there. I only had 1.5 hr before the bus back to Awa Ikeda so it was just the right amount of time to get to the view point and spend a bit time taking photos (one way around 20-30min).Written 1 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LunasolhkHong Kong, China785 contributionsLocated right next to the exit of the Kazurabashi Bridge. It's a small waterfall yet quite beautiful. Worth to take a brief stop.Written 13 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Wanderer82176Kadoma, Japan5 contributionsWe decided to try it out because "mountain monorail" sounded interesting, although that was about all we knew about it. Before we got there, I expected it to be "enjoyable" but that Y2000 per person was probably more than it was worth. I was wrong--the price is fair for a 65-70 minute (yes, 1+ hour!) ride up and down a beautifully quiet mountainside for 5 km. You are mostly traveling within the forest trees (we saw a deer), although you do get a few higher/more distant views midway along where it becomes single track to circle back around before returning. Many of the other reviewers' comments were spot-on. It IS like a very slow (yet still sometimes scary somehow) rollercoaster. The track travels up/down some very steep sections (some are quite long too). The seats will mechanically tilt forward/backward to adjust for the particularly inclined sections (otherwise you would feel like you're about to fall out). For us, the scariest part was when the ride (or, most noticeably, the engine noise) suddenly stopped temporarily several times while midway up/down very steeply inclined sections. (I don't know a reason for this, but it seemed "normal" and not a malfunction.) The cute Japanese beetle cars hold two people, one in front of the other. I strongly suggest the taller person sit behind because you'll have more freedom of movement for your legs...65 minutes is a long time for a tall person to not be able to move your knees. Overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable hour.Written 5 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Victor KHong Kong, China485 contributionsI am glad to stay in this side of valley rather than Iya Valley. A lot of water in the river despite the dry season which offers a lively scene. Taking the boat tour is a must.Written 11 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
