Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Louise S1 contributionWe had the best time carving pumpkins and drinking gin at Isle of Cumbrae Distillers! Myself and my friend booked the event as an activity whilst she was visiting the area and it couldn't have been more fun - Freya gave great pumpkin carving tips and demonstrated how to do some lovely effects, and the gin was delicious (we both tried Maura and it was great). Everyone was so friendly and we had a great trip. They also put on some snacks along with gin so we felt very looked after. I could definitely recommend a visit to this lovely distillery with its equally lovely staff and if they do pumpkin carving next year, book!Written 28 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - june tSouth Shields, UK71 contributionsLovely isle, lots of festivals over the course of the year.
Small campervan site behind the Garrison, why points learn disposal etc, only a small site so book early.
Parking available right along the sea front, public toilets available.
Lots of quirky shops, bars and eating places.
99.9% of the island residents are lovely, welcoming and fun, unfortunately the percentage that wasnt, was rude confrontational and a pain, (Colin), did not like people parking across the road from his house, in the sea front, even though it is council owned. He swore at the campervaners, reved his engine at 7am in the morning, and blasted his van horn. Well known by islanders for being obnoxious.
Well worth a visit to the island, plenty to do and see, just be careful where you park on Glasgow Street to avoid Colin lolWritten 26 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A small and very beautiful building with a friendly and welcoming congregation. Lovely music to accompany the service and we would have liked to attend one of the music recitals in during August 2023.Written 9 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK5,363 contributionsNewton Beach is the small shingle/sandy beach that lies below the promenade in the centre of Millport. With gently sloping sand into shallow water it is ideal for families and its intertidal rock pools add extra interest and fun while the stunning views of the Eileans, Little Cumbrae and the Clyde Estuary make the perfect backdrop.
The beach is highly rated and has received a Beach Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful.Written 8 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sasha W5 contributionsThe aquarium section has recently been renovated and now appears much more professional. The museum section is now more geared to kids and of less interest to the adult visitor than it used to be.Written 25 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jake JValletta, Malta56 contributionsAnother visit to this great little site right in the middle of town. Only a ten minute ferry ride gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland to the peace and tranquility of the Island. Stayed 31/5/24 for a few nights and as before we had a great few day's, site is well kept, staff are ultra friendly, yards from the beach, shop's, resteraunt and bars. Only thing is it doesn't have a toilet or shower block, you are free to use the toilets in the Garrison during opening hours. Maybe in the future they will add the toilet/shower block. We will be back.Written 3 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Pauline5 contributionsLast minute decision to take ferry from Largs to Millport and I'm so glad I did. What a beautiful little island. Millport itself is having quite a lot of work done along the front, but drive out of there and follow the coast road round and you won't be disappointed. There are plenty of areas to pull in and enjoy the view.
I visited The Glaid Stone which you can walk up to, but I drove up and found a small parking area. Views amazing!! Stop at the cafe at Fintry Bay for lunch. - Beth CFort Walton Beach, FL40 contributionsAs is typical with searching out these standing stones, we had a bit of difficulty finding it and figuring out where to park. When you get close, look for a 2-car parking area with a sign for Gouklan Wood. There's a lovely (short) path through the woods to the standing stone.Written 10 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
