Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It has a good walking/cycling track and suitable for all ages. The track is mainly gravel and we saw lots of families walking dogs there. The mine is huge and you get different angles if you walk around. The sheer size is remarkable. Some nice information panels to understanding what you are looking at. Its not far from town and not really any parking available, so you can just park in town and walk up. There is not much in the way of shelter, so wear hat, sunblock etc as you are exposed.

We were lucky enough to visit on a day where the volunteers were in at the museum building. We had a great guide, knowledgeable and friendly. The sweet black cat sleeping in her box at the front was a bonus too. A very interesting collection of historical artifacts. It was worth checking out the kilns on the top of the hill too.

We had such a lovely interaction with the lady on duty in the Waihi information centre on Sunday 11 July. She helped us with suggestions for hiring e bikes to ride the Waihi to Paeroa trail through the Karangahake Gorge. Nothing was too much trouble & we were well looked after. Great bikes too!

Nice, little museum with lots of models and artefacts. Staff are friendly and helpful. The local jail house is attached and you can look into a couple of the cells, one of which was padded for 'wild' inmates. Entrance fee of $5 very reasonable.

Des was great and selected a bike thatvwas in excellent condition with great extras such as mudguards and stand as well as a handy bag strapped to the back. It also had a water holder. He paitiently described how to operated the e bike as it was my first time. I recommend Des .Carliba

Took my family on the trip for my son’s 4th birthday. It was ‘the best day he has ever had’. Right from the start the staff were all very friendly and welcoming and helpful. Even in the rain it was an awesome experience with some amazing views of the countryside, cleared enough for us to get out on the open carriage which was even better.
Would highly recommend this to people of all ages.

The train from Waihi stops and turns around here. We popped into the café for a quick coffee and pie. There is not much time (about 20 minutes) before the train returns. The next train returns in 2 hours. Unfortunately many people get off the train and rush to the café, and it gets very busy. They had lots of eats available, but ideally one would love to sit down and enjoy a breakfast. The dining room is exceptionally beautiful, taking one back to a time our grandparents would have enjoyed. It is worth a visit.
