Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- ReneeTauranga, New Zealand45 contributionsBeautiful place to visit or stay. We only detoured on our way home as I’ve always wanted to visit. Wish we had longer for a swim but guess we’ll have to return one day and stayWritten 18 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JaneMLondonLondon148 contributionsThis is a free hidden gem - lots of kauri trees along an easy loop path (c2km long) from the car park. Spotting the trees emerging from the vegetation as you walk along the path is wonderful - a bit like an animal safari! If you are coming from the North do not take the first turn off as this is unsealed gravel. Take the second turn off further down the main road near Kaihu, ie as if you are going to the Top 10 Holiday Park. You go along this turn off past the Top 10 and when you get to the DOC Kauri Park campsite on your left, turn next left along a short gravel road for the car park - it isn't well signposted.Written 18 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Meredith CAuckland, New Zealand61 contributionsThis was such an exciting discovery. I have been through Dargaville on so many occasions but never been advised to visit this first class tourist highlight revealing the history of what used to be a thriving port. There is such a collection of artifacts from the 19th and early 20th centuries displayed artistically in 7 large halls. We were so fortunate to have 91 year old Ron Halliday as our tour guide and it was he who held our attention for 2 hours with his personal accounts of life in those early days. Many of the exhibits were in working order which made the visit even more enthralling.Written 8 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alastair BHamilton, New Zealand124 contributionsThe beach was beautiful.
There were lifeguards on duty and we felt safe swimming between the flags.
We parked up on the road and walked to the beach, but there were plenty of people who drove out and along the beach.Written 16 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I chose to go just before sunset and caught the best shots. The landscape around the track was also amazingWritten 18 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Grant NHastings, New Zealand1,507 contributionsSmall shop with the output of a great woodturner. The products are beautiful and the prices reflect that. If you are really interested in the product it is a definite place to visit as you'll find top class wood productsWritten 30 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bowspritgirlWakefield33 contributionsHadn’t planned to stop but the peak is so distinctive I decided to climb it.
It is steep and more of a scramble for the last 20 metres. It took me 11 minutes to get to the top from the car park. The stunning views are well worth the effort.
I found it harder descending as all of the pressure is on your knees and it would be easy to slip or trip.Written 13 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is a must see for when you are travelling to Dargaville. Easily accessible with good parking makes this one not to miss!Written 1 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - james_sakkerNambucca Heads, Australia51 contributionsMy wife and I visited the incredible Waipoua forest in March 2018. The Yakas walk is the longest walk at 1 hour 50 mins. I went at 9am and had the place to myself-There were so many impressive Kauri trees and the trail winds up and down through different landscapes. One of the most beautiful walks I've ever done. Quite easy for anyone in good health, well made gravel track with some board walk sections. You will get really close to the Kauri's and the other stunning tree ferns, mosses and fernsWritten 5 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lpl51Sunshine Coast, Australia340 contributionsRun by volunteers with numerous exhibits inside the building including the new mezzanine level and some machinery in the grounds outside. The displays included vintage vehicles, tractors, farm machinery and equipment, and old homewares.
In comparison to other museums and the displays on offer, the $20 each admission seemed a bit steep for what there was to see – although we could have had one of the volunteers showing us around and explaining each exhibit.Written 29 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
