Somehow Jerry Pinkas and his volunteer staff have pulled it off so far at the Myrtle Beach Pinball Museum, which is an open fire hose of awesomeness in the pinball desert that is Myrtle Beach.
The museum has them set for free play, just walk up to a pinball machine and enjoy.

I love “little” museums and factory tours.
Nice little museum, gift shop, film of history of kazoo, tour guide Melody then demonstrated a variety of kazoos and quizzed us on our attention during the film- very fun!

... to show my children history as we walked through the submarine (USS Clamagore), destroyer (USS Laffey), aircraft carrier (USS Yorktown) and the Vietnam Experience Exhibit, many many aircraft and a couple museums.
Every time I visit one of these wonderful WW2 vintage military museums I always ask myself if I could have ever mustered the courage that these brave Americans did to serve.
Brookgreen Gardens Murrells Inlet
#4 of 133 Museums in Coastal South Carolina
It offers virtually unending walking trails, ponds, sculptures and mini-museums that, depending on the time if year, offers different exhibits for the public.
Brookgreen has an amazing collection of sculptures, stunning spaces with brick archways and pergolas, lots of indoor museum space, and a great zoo for kids.

If you are looking for some culture, breathing art, and friendly staff, stop into one of the most exquisite art museums in the country!
Had a bit of time before my flight home (airport only a few easy miles away which was a big plus on a rainy morning) and nixed the wax museums and other flashy spots in favor of this place.

The synagogue is worth a visit, there's a very good, if small, museum, and a very nice gift shop, but the tour was truly excellent, full of humor, history, and insights about the Jewish community in the South.
Everything about the tour of the synagogue is first rate: the tour guides are extremely knowledgeable, there is an excellent museum and they have a large gift shop.

Being a volunteer firefighter, I often take the grandchildren to visit my station as well as stations/museums in the areas we vacation.
Had a great visit to the Fire Museum and the volunteers who staff it are wonderful to converse with and have a wealth of knowledge to share.

The view from the fort is priceless and the museums were great!
Enjoyable and informative boat ride out to the island and plenty of time to walk thru the museum and also walk the walls and really get to feel the history and importance to American history.

While the house museums are gorgeous and fascinating, the history they discuss tends to be in context of the family that lived there; the Charleston Museum helps you understand the history of the city in a broader...
As someone who is fascinated by history, especially the history of the Civil War, it is staggering to note how many museums my wife and I visit while traveling throughout the United States.
#12 of 133 Museums in Coastal South Carolina
My wife and I have toured just about all of the house museums in Charleston, and I would rank this house near the top.
Note that all purchases in its gift shop (and those of the other museums) are tax free, which is a nice little saving.

Our guide was excellent; she gave so much history from before the Revolutionary War through the Civil War, and there was a nice two story museum highlighting events from both periods.

Hollywood Wax Museum Myrtle Beach

The props that enabled the perfect set-up for great photos with the wax stars in the wax museum were a unique addition to visits at other wax museums we had visited in the past.
My nephews are kind of "hum drum" when it comes to museums and you have to make your own fun.

Confederate Museum Charleston
#24 of 133 Museums in Coastal South Carolina
Charleston and South Carolina were central to the Secession, but the official museums such as the Charleston Museum and the Fort Sumter Visitor Center clearly present the narrative from the standpoint of the victors.
This is a small museum and gives you an in depth look at actual confederate soldiers lives, something the large museums miss.

I'm a big fan of visiting children's museums around the country to give our kids a chance to relax and be in their element amid family events and touristy adventures.

Heyward House Bluffton
#28 of 133 Museums in Coastal South Carolina
In addition to this gem of a small museum, it serves as the Welcome Center for Old Bluffton, and gateway to the serene, tranquil, and pristine May River.
We made a small donation of $5 to keep the museum up and running and as a token of appreciation for the free parking.

My teen is addicted to art museums so when visiting Charleston, this had been on the list for a while.
The museum houses a large collection including portrait miniatures, Japanese woodblock prints and contemporary works of art that share the artistic expressions of 345 years of Charleston and the south.
