Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Called in with great expectations after loving our previous visit a couple of years ago. Met Maggie Rayner who gave us a cheerful friendly greeting. Asked after Kym who we had been hasted by during our previous visit only to learn he had passed away, We were really sorry about that - he was a laugh a minute and his humour really suited us. Went ahead with a wine tasting sitting outside - Maggie tried to get us to try the Chardonnay but we resisted - made us try the Albarino and converted us to appreciate a white for a change. All the wines were more than acceptable with the Albarino a standout. Had a platter (she sorted extras for our gluten free member) which was excellent. Overall one of the best tasting visits we have had. Maggie is a delight and the surroundings are lovely. Regardless of timing, if we're back that way again we'll be calling in for more - A must visit winery

Called in for a tasting - the usual tasting room was closed so we stayed in the restaurant. Had three wines 2019 Pinot Noir (ok) 2020 Pint Noir(very nice) and Syrah 2019 (ok). Had a chat as she explained the way wine was made here. Very interesting the one that ferments in the paddock - but our favourite was definitely the 2020 Pinot.

Driving through the region from Kaikoura to Christchurch and wondering wether to stop for a wine tasting in the area as knew, nothing about the wines produced here and always keen to learn. Decided on Waipara Springs thinking that if they did not want to do the wine tasting we could quite understand as it was getting late. The guy who served us was quite happy to do the tasting and it turned out to be such a lovely experience. The guy, Andrew, happened to be the owner along with his wife. He told us some lovely stories about how his father had started the business in the early 80. The wines were all very pleasant on a hot sunny day, we bought a bottle and had a Pinot gris from the Waipara region with our evening meal in Christchurch. Would have loved to have had a meal in their restaurant, people sat outside in the lovely sun, it was such a nice setting. Thank you Andrew for making us feel very welcome and teaching us about the Waipara wine region.

All 7 wines we tasted were delicious (we limited ourselves to buying 3 bottles) and the olive oil beautiful (bought 1 bottle) with the kalamata olives the best yet (yep, we bought a jar of those, too!) Their gourmet toasties were the perfect accompaniment. We joined their wine club on the spot. Highly recommended 👌

The Winery was delightful, the wines delicious and the Canine Embassador was furry! Loved the visit! The hosts were friendly and accommodating. Set in a lovely rural setting with rolling hills and fields of grapevines.

Lovely shared grazing plate but the shoestring fries were a bit anemic, undercooked. Good service but felt the feedback wasn't received well.

It might be a long dusty track out to Lake Taylor but it’s well worth it. The lake is packed full of trout and there is a small Doc campsite there, basic but pleasant.
If you don’t mind some seriously pot holes roaring you can cycle from Lake Taylor all the way to Loch Katrine. If you don’t want to go the whole way then grab a picnic and a camera and just enjoy the day.
Remember it is farm land so keep the gates closed be hind you and be respectful.

Jack was a mine of information about the winery and its location. He is a
asset to the place. Boneline wines are not cheap, but they are special.

Correct it's not a bush walk. Yes over grassy fields. It's still beautiful. Yes it's downhill to the beach and then uphill back again. But the people above who ended up in tears are a bit over the top. You could have turned back before the tears. This is a lovely walk.

Anyone looking for a boutique winery experience in Waipara should look no further than Bishops Head.
Husband and wife team Pete & Juliet Saunders deliver a unique experience. Not only do they run the vine yard and make the wine, they're likely to make the delicious food platters and deliver the wine tasting.
Only five minutes off the main road, treat yourself to fine wine, food, all served with a friendly smile and often many laughs. Enjoy!

We had a great time on the Weka Pass Railway. The train rider itself was excellent, really exiting for the kids and they stopped for a photo opportunity en route too. The only advice I would say is to pack a lunch, as there isn't much choice in terms of eating options at the end.
Highly recomment as a day trip out
