On the way to Hanmer and spotted terrace edge. First discovered their wines a number of years ago and took a big liking to their liquid geography white wine. So decided to stop and have a tasting. It turned into also having a yummy braised beef focasica bread to tie and using a number of their wine varieties. Lovely host. Warm and friendly. Definately recommend.

What a wonderful experience staying with our Motorhome at Torlesse Vineyard, we bought a few bottles of wines over a few days, then family joined us here for a wonderful platter, couldn’t fault it, the staff are very friendly and the wines are great and affordable

Waipara Hills Cafe is on the main road side so you I can’t miss it. Its an imposing building with a double door entrance into the wine tasting area and a restaurant to the back with great views of the vines. The food is exception with something for everyone and a mix-and-match option. Recommend it for lunch on your journey either south to Christchurch or northwards up the Winery Trail. A delicious lunch with wine tasting to start you off right.

We had a great tasting here (again) and brought another dozen for the cellar.
They aren't cheap but you certainly get what you pay for.
The host was friendly and knowledgeable.
We've been here several times (we are out-of-towners) and haven't had a bad experience yet.

Stopped here for lunch and so glad we did.
    Great service and great setting.
The white wine platter was very good especially the salmon terrine and the pâté.
Great Chardonnay too! Hope to return.

Amazing stay in the WinePod, two beautiful nights of peace and relaxation. We were lucky to get an awesome celestial show when the clouds parted on the first night. Sitting in the hot tub watching the sky and drinking the wonderful wine from Georges Road, it was just magical. Everything was perfect and the foods for breakfast were nearly all local, it was a real treat. Wine tasting with Kirk was also great and we bought a few bottles to take home. I just need to persuade my partner that we should make the WinePod a yearly trip :-)

It might be a long dusty track out to Lake Taylor but it’s well worth it. The lake is packed full of trout and there is a small Doc campsite there, basic but pleasant.
If you don’t mind some seriously pot holes roaring you can cycle from Lake Taylor all the way to Loch Katrine. If you don’t want to go the whole way then grab a picnic and a camera and just enjoy the day.
Remember it is farm land so keep the gates closed be hind you and be respectful.

The highlight of our trip to Waipara! Vik was such a great host with wine knowledge, chat and tips for future trips! This winery had been recommended to us and I’m so glad it was, otherwise we wouldn’t have stumbled upon it. An absolute gem on a rainy day in Waipara. The wine in Bone Line speaks for itself, so great we had to order back to Auckland. 100% will be on our list to go to next time we’re in Canterbury!

Correct it's not a bush walk. Yes over grassy fields. It's still beautiful. Yes it's downhill to the beach and then uphill back again. But the people above who ended up in tears are a bit over the top. You could have turned back before the tears. This is a lovely walk.

Stopped for a wine tasting on our way home but sat in the winter sun and ordered a couple of entrees with some chips. Plenty of prawns with a nice side salad and the chips were excellent. The french onion soup was good but the best we've had. Sitting outside and having the tasting brought to us while we ate and enjoyed the view was just lovely, $15 for 8 tastings is pretty reasonable. Very pleased we stopped here, service is good and the cat and dog are pleasant dining companions.

Anyone looking for a boutique winery experience in Waipara should look no further than Bishops Head.
Husband and wife team Pete & Juliet Saunders deliver a unique experience. Not only do they run the vine yard and make the wine, they're likely to make the delicious food platters and deliver the wine tasting.
Only five minutes off the main road, treat yourself to fine wine, food, all served with a friendly smile and often many laughs. Enjoy!
