Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- JediJanAuckland, New Zealand11 contributionsReally enjoyable trip, can't recommend it enough. The trip took around 2 1/2 hours but never dragged. We particularly loved the bush walk - the bird song was incredible. Ben made us a lovely cup of tea in the bush shelter and provided a cake for a couple who were having a wedding anniversary - so thoughtful!Written 24 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The story of a wharenui fit for a queen that was taken by the Govt of the time and sent in 1870 to Sydney, Melbourne, London and back to Dunedin where it was given to the Otago Museum. It was finally returned in 1996 to Ngati Awa. Needless to say the whare was in a poor condition and had to be renewed before being erected. Today we heard that story with an audio visual display, followed by a pohiri and introduction to the ancestors. We finished with a hakere of fry bread and kawakawa tea.Written 17 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Patsy A1 contributionWe had the best day kayaking to Moutohora Island with Kenny as our guide. We loved our catamaran cruise and the stunning scenery in this area, the playful seals following our kayaks, the beautiful sandy beach, the flora and fauna around the island, and the walk to the geothermal beach.
Kenny is an excellent guide, helpful and informative. He has a great sense of humour and he ensures that everyone feels safe and happy on the tour.

Everyone was so friendly and helpful, right from the start we knew we were in good hands. The dolphins were amazing and spending the better part of a day on the boat was so perfect. We saw a shark, flying fish and a couple of tuna. Whale Island is beautiful and the water was so warm. There were even baby dolphins and seals! 10/10 recommend! We will be coming back another time for sure.Written 8 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
