Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A great expanse of clean beach. Great for families and plenty of free parking close to the beach. Life guards at the swimming area

Outstanding in every way. Great for anyone, local or tourist, young or old. Paul is amazing with his customers, very thorough with safety and a great sense of humour. I highly recommend this activity!

Great experience. Super delicious strawberry summer salad and awesome smoothie. A great place for lunch or a snack, with lots of shaded seating :)

We were passing through on the highway and saw this spot - an easy turnoff and worth the short detour to see the views and take photos.

Mataatua, the house that returned home. The story of a wharenui fit for a queen that was taken by the Govt of the time and sent in 1870 to Sydney, Melbourne, London and back to Dunedin where it was given to the Otago Museum. It was finally returned in 1996 to Ngati Awa. Needless to say the whare was in a poor condition and had to be renewed before being erected. Today we heard that story with an audio visual display, followed by a pohiri and introduction to the ancestors. We finished with a hakere of fry bread and kawakawa tea.

The scenery is amazing and it is a great walk into the township - it has lots of wide space for bikes and trikes etc... the walk takes you along the back of the township so you can stop for a nice coffee or treat on the way

Both Geof and Belle couldn't have been more helpful in finding us accommodation for us for one night. They both had great difficulty but finally were able to find us a room at the Com Plex which totally suited us.
Geof and Belle you are worth your weight in gold and we thank you so much for your time given to us, Thank you.

Lovely hot pool... big, clean and hot...
But the other facilities are rather tired.
The kitchens looked well stocked, but we didn't use it. I didn't fancy using the shower facilities either. Used our own.
The location and grounds are fab though, and great value for money. $18 each with power. Free pool

a nice pit stop for short time towards driving Whakatane. the surrounding is pristine and clean. Nothing much though except for the beach and wooden piers.

Popped in for a yummy fruity icecream after our picnic lunch at Blueberry corner! A ritual that we've done now for the 4th year of our holiday at Awakeri hot springs! Great place to checkout wether you're on your own couples or a family! Check then out you won't be disappointed! 🍨🍧

Fabulous adventure to whale island - kayaking. Friendly professional skipper and guide. Super good vibe- nature gave us a glimpse of seals, dolphins rays and a variety of bird life. We had so much fun!

Thank you Tania and Fiona for a brilliant day out to Moutohora. Not only did we see some great wildlife but Tania s knowledge about the island and Maori names and history was brilliant. Take your swimming things as it’s a lovely beach to swim off at the end. One point take your Bushman’s as we did get a couple of mozzy bites walking through the forest track nothing serious and definitely wouldn’t put us off from going again
