Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took this road from Whitianga to Coromandel due to maps telling us to go this way. Would be a cool road in an off road vehicle as it is mostly windy and gravel … problem was we were towing a caravan 🤣 … was an epic experience ☺️

A group of us did the pinnacles walk out and back same day. All various levels of fitness.
All up took us 7 hours including a short break at the Doc hut
It took us 3hrs 15 mins to the very top viewing platform.
The section from the hut to the top is very exposed to the elements. It was very windy and wet for us which make it tricky! The ladders and rungs in the rocks were cold, muddy and slippery. I wish I had gloves. Had to pile on a few layers of clothing - it was very cold.
Couldn’t see any view at the top but it was still worth it as felt like quite the adventure making it to the top!
Not for the faint hearted the section from hut to the top! A hard climb and not good if you’re scared of heights!
We were very glad to be in sturdy grippy hiking boots!

Wished I had stopped in sooner. Received great advice here on walks, history and what was happening in the town.

A short walk to a large Kauri tree. It used to be much more square but has rounded a bit. Worth checking out if you are in the area.

Pokohino Beach is stunning. The path down to the beach may be a challenge for some, but well worth the effort. The water is crystal clear and the cove in the rocks exciting, but best enjoyed at low tide.

This is an easy walk among the Kauri trees with some great views over Coromandel peninsula as well. You pass through a gate where you must wash underneath your shoes to stop diseases getting to these special trees - this is a great initiative. It is a peaceful walk and not too strenuous for most levels of fitness. Well worth the experience.

A short easy walk takes you right up to a group of enormous ancient Kauri. Gives you a good idea of what used to cover the Coromandel

this looked like a great idea at the time.

Driving past the sign it sounded like a little bit of local history, and keen to see the local history of the old gold mining town, we drove up the side road to the location.

Thought it looked a little quiet, but then as we arrived I noticed that there is a sign on a side door (not obvious) stating that it will be closed till late July.

No bother, plenty to see if you walk around, there's a nice little walk across a bridge over a small rive, and several artifacts out in place for you to look at.

Looks cool, and would love to revisit when it's open, but for now, cannot give it any more than 3 stars.

Well with a look and the $5.00 donation at the door. The museum comprises several rooms and collections. The history of the area has been captured and it is important we support efforts like this to ensure it’s not lost.
Winter hours Saturday and Sunday only 1pm to 4pm
