This was the third Medici Villa we’ve had the opportunity to visit , and this one was our favourite so far. In contrast to the other two visits, this time we were fortunate to be led around the property by an enthusiastic bilingual guide who made every effort to answer questions and point out special items of interest in the collection, in English, as we toured the museum. As a result, we gained a much greater appreciation for what we were seeing, than had we had the more standard Medici Villa experience of simply wandering the rooms, not knowing the significance of what we were seeing.( Written explanations are sparse, and solely in Italian.)

Although not many of the furnishings m exhibits and paintings we saw were necessarily original to the house, they were relevant to the periods of occupancy; and interesting to look at for that reason.

We had to leave the museum slightly early because it was closing for lunch, but an hour is I think adequate time to enjoy what the museum has to offer. Afterwards, you can take some time to wander the streets of the Centro of the village, which has numerous placards on display pointing out buildings and other features of historical interest in the village,

The vineyard Colle Adimari received us with great hospitality and showed us their beautiful vineyard, told about the wine making and the history of the farm, and last but not least, we got to taste the delicious wines. We ordered wines and will order again when they are finished. Thank you for unforgettable memories in wonderful Tuscany.

Fantastic family-owned olive oil crushing facility about 20 minutes drive from Florence. having been to Florence several times, I did a lot of research on best olive oil crush plants to visit, and have several. This is definitely the one to go to. we saw the farmers bringing in their olives in buckets, the entire crushing process and the final bottling. they also set up a tasting of local Tuscan meats (salami, prosciutto, etc.) cheeses, breads and of course olive oil crushed that day.
Our guide (niece of the owners and one of the workers there) spoke great English and explained everything. A highlight to a two week trip to Tuscany. This is a small place that still crushers with giant stone wheels. we all loved this tour and bought some fantastic oil.
This place is also near the town of Vinci, where Leonardo da Vinci grew up which is also a great side trip as it has a cute castle and museum.
This is an actual working factory, not a tourist attraction, so you won't see a tour bus like some of the other places make crush oil.
reach out to them through their website (it's in Italian but you can translate the entire website with google translate icon on the right side of your address bar using Crome), and you can make an appointment for the tour, buying oil, or the tasting (which I think is a must). Tasting was 17 euros per person (I think) but a big meal.

“Villa di Petriolo” is an accommodation facility, and therefore is obviously listed as such in the municipality of Cerreto Guidi. But here I would like to underline its quality as an architectural monument, and as evidence of the organization of the surrounding territory in past centuries.
Scholars define the nature of Villa di Petriolo at its origins as a "villa-farm". In fact it was a farm managing an estate divided into a series of "poderi" (agricultural production units), each equipped with its own home and entrusted to as many peasants qualified as "sharecroppers". The sharecroppers together with their entire family (an extended family, not mononuclear like today's), cultivated the land owned by the master and at the end of the year they divided the product in half with him.
The farm was precisely the operational centre, from which the "farmer" (manager, we would say today) monitored the "sharecroppers" of the surrounding "poderi" on behalf of the owner, and in which the crops coming from the "poderi" were gathered, as much as half which belonged to the master.
But also a "villa" was attached to the farm, that is, the residence of the owner, if and when he decided to reside there: therefore a building not for management, but for relaxation.
This production structure, divided into villa, farm and "poderi", has been typical of all of central Tuscany for centuries, and generates the "beautiful landscape" that we consider specific to the region. Anyone who wants more information on the functioning of this structure should visit the "Museo della Mezzadria" (Museum of Sharecropping) in Buonconvento, south of Siena.
Even from another point of view, however, Villa di Petriolo is a microcosm that reflects the macrocosm of the Tuscan countryside: that of contemporaneity. In fact the estate, after having been owned originally by the Guidi counts, starting from the mid-16th century and for four centuries, belonged to the Florentine Alessandri family (which in turn originated as a branch of the once very powerful Albizi family, rival of the Medici): Finally it has greatly decayed, until, in 2018, it has been purchased by a family of Mexican origins - operating in the fashion business - in consortium with a local entrepreneur, has been radically renovated, and today hosts a high-level resort, which also stands out for its eco-friendly management.
The territory belonging to the ancient farm can also be freely used for strolling, in a highly scenic setting. We followed a 5 km circular route. west of the villa, on a sunny April day, following a trail from the “Komoot” website.
Our route allowed us to appreciate the high landscape quality of the surrounding area, which the visitor expects in the Chianti or Siena area, but less so in the hills of the lower Valdarno.

I come here every year, it's absolutely iconic. This time I had to drive so I tried a not alcoholic drink. Not my usual choice but they killed it. Really fruity and flavorful! Loved the snacks as well.
The waitresses gave a 10/10 service, really nice and tried hard not to make the language barrier stop me from a good drink.
Just a tip...if u come around 6.30 when there is still not many people the drinks will be served faster!
