Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Sonia D1 contributionWe went for wine tasting and had Marcus as our host. What a delight with a wealth of knowledge. Not only a pleasant experience an education as well.Written 24 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BPNY3 contributionsIt would be hard to imagine a better wine tasting experience. Stunning vineyard, you're given the code to open the front gate when you book, you're met by the lovely , knowledgeable, and hilarious Ingrid, off for 45 mins give or take walking through the operations and storage room gaining a full appreciation for how they make the wine, and then finishing with a tasting. The three people on my tour had Ingrid's undivided attention for over an hour. That would be extraordinary at any winery, but to get that at a world-class winery -- and at no cost -- is truly extraordinary. It made me appreciate their excellent wines even more. Well done.Written 14 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

It’s a beautiful place to enjoy a wine tasting of local wines! Do not miss the Sauvignon Blanc and the Cabernet Frank.

Our host was Jill and she was serving us as well as a large group. We had to cut our tasting short, but since we would be coming through Cromwell the next day, we told Jill that we would stop by the next day to buy some wine. We brought a bottle of 2021 The High Note Pinot Noir ($55NZD). Highly recommend this tasting room.Written 10 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Elaine W28 contributionsFirst time visiting the new Cellar Door & Kitchen and it was great. The Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder was melt in mouth divine. And the Lemon Meringue Tarte presentation was exceptional.
Congratulations to the kitchen 🧑‍🍳

- Angela CNew Plymouth, New Zealand24 contributionsMade an appt. to wine taste at what is now Dicey, glad we did as part of our South Island trip. Great wines, beautiful location right in the middle of the vineyard, and cool vibe to the tasting room which had artwork on display by Odelle. Odelle our host was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the wines. We loved their 2L RĂłse, which we have since ordered through their website as it was too big to pack for the flight home! Highly recommend a visit, but make sure to call to book your appt. firstWritten 23 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - James MAuckland, New Zealand428 contributionsMy lovely wife and I dropped in on the last day of the year. Rudi and his delightful wife told us much about their wines. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Rudi is a true legend of the New Zealand wine scene though he is very modest. We bought some wine and would really like to return. Worth spending time to visit and undertake a tasting.Written 1 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alexmiller90Atlanta, GA142 contributionsWe showed up without a reservation for a tasting and could not have had a better experience. We tasted 6 wines, including their botanical, all in a beautiful setting at no charge. One of the founders, Sarah, took care of us and we enjoyed learning about the history of the site alongside the excellent wine. We ended up buying a few bottles and will ship more via the NZ Wine Collective site.Written 9 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Janet MCordova, TN822 contributionsWe booked a private wine tasting at their winery that is based at 7 Rogers St. in the commercial area of Cromwell. After our tasting, we purchased several bottles of the 2020 Burn Cottage Moonlight Race Pinot Noir (rated a 96 by Wine Spectator).Written 10 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - evets1232016Sydney, Australia465 contributionsWe were here as part of small group wine-tasting tour. I could not fault our experience at Akarua in any way. The winery is located in a very picturesque location. The hostess was very knowledgeable and quite generous with her pours. The range of wines was typical of the area-pinot noir, rose and some dry whites, but also included an unusual ice wine. I prefered some wines more than others, but the overall standard was very good. Well worth including on your list of Central Otago wineries to visit.Written 15 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
