- chrissieb94Dorset, UK3,582 contributionsPretty waterfall with lots of lush, green rainforest vegetation surrounding it. There is a viewing platform, which is perfect for taking photos from. It is possible to go behind the falls, although we didn’t fancy getting wet! The path to access the falls was uneven and with steps. There were a couple of men prepared to jump from the cliff at the top to the pool - for money! We didn’t pay although someone else did.Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- EllenM0rganBirmingham, AL175 contributionsWe don’t usually purchase excursions directly through the cruise line but this was a Journeys cruise and we wanted to relax and have our day be Carnival’s responsibility and we are so glad we did. The shore adventures team does an excellent job at these less visited ports of directing guests exactly where they need to go so it was very easy to find our group right as we got off the ship.
Our host/guide, Warren, was incredible. I can’t remember our driver’s name but I was so impressed by not just his driving skills on an island but he was equally helpful getting folks off and on the van and answering questions.
After a 15 minute ride we arrived at Magazine Beach. When we first got there I thought it was an average spot but I quickly realized we were just in the parking lot. The beach area with chairs is about a 5-7 minute walk but completely worth it. The beach area is very shaded by palms and mangroves but there’s also plenty of space to get sun. There is a bar/restaurant that is connected to the resort but you will not have access to the resort itself, just the bar/restaurant area and restrooms.
The beach was hands down my favorite beach I’ve been to anywhere in the world. The 2.5 vans from Carnival were the only people there so it was not crowded at all. It was quiet and felt like we were on a private beach. The sand was very white, fine/soft, and extremely clean. It wasn’t very rocky but there were large rocks in the sand near where the surf breaks.
On the day we visited the surf was strong/rough/high but there was no undertow/current pulling you back out. We travel with small floats and we were thankful to have had them. As pretty fit people, my husband and I struggled a little getting in and out but there were plenty of people older/less fit in the water and doing fine.
It was truly my favorite beach day we’ve had in 12+ cruises and we can’t wait to go back.Written 22 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Known as The Carenage, which comes from the French word which means "safe anchorage". It is also known as Wharf Road
It follows the contour of Carenage Bay for under a kilometre. We started at one end by the Grenadian Tourism Authority and ended up at Sails Restaurant at the other.
The bay is a natural deep-water inlet that's set in an ancient volcanic crater.
The waterfront is a very vibrant area lined with some beautiful old Georgian style buildings, some in better shape than others with numerous shops and restaurants. Over the years various hurricanes have reeked havoc on the island, some buildings have not yet been repaired or demolished, which ever is appropriate.
The Carenage is a hub for maritime activity although the Cruise Ships do not dock here, they are at the dedicated Terminal in St George’s itself.
Here there are a variety of boats of all shapes and sizes sailing in and out of the harbour. We saw colourful fishing boats alongside tall masted ships, massive industrial tankers with water taxis and boat trip vessels maneuvering their way around the Bay.
As we walked along the front we could see Fort George and the spires of the three main Churches, in St George’s, which dominate the skyline. Looking from left to right, from the Fort, they are St Andrew's Presbyterian Church (Scots Kirk), St George’s Cathedral and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
The waterfront promenade is a lively area with lots of visitors and boats. It's lined with colorful Georgian-style buildings, shops, restaurants, cafes, and government buildings, including the restored Office of Public Service Commission, near Sails Restaurant.
Along the waterfront there is a pick up point where cruise ship passengers can be picked up or dropped by tenders from the ships.
There is also the arrival/departure point for the Osprey Ferry to and from the small island of Carriacou.
There is a statue, Christ the Deep, standing at the water's edge almost at the centre point of the Bay.
From the Town we found the easiest way to reach here, starting at Esplanade Mall, was to walk down Melville Street then through the Sendall Tunnel follow the road down Monkton Street to here, close to Sails Restaurant. The route is flat and takes about five minutes, opposed to walking up one of the very steep streets and then descending down the other side.Written 6 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But, as a result of it having once been captured by the French coming from the land side, there were cannon facing inward as well as out to sea. Supposedly, some construction/maintenance will bring back some of its former glory.Written 18 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jayne M7 contributionsThe little market place is traditional and you get to meet some of the locals who are friendly and chatty. Nobody hassled us at all. They just wanted to chat. - CMM7 contributionsUtterly speechless . We’ve been coming to Grenada for years and finally found the time with my brother to go and visit. We did not call ahead (poor planning on our part) but called when parked in the drive and lovely Max and Lampshade (the best dog in the world) met us. As lovers of any botanical garden we were blown away. Did you know they grow the trees that produce Chanel #5? Have you ever tasted cinnamon straight off the tree bark? Did you know they send flowers to the Chelsea Flower Show in England? Max was incredible. His knowledge, the history of his family. We did not do a tour of the house as we did not plan well but for anyone visiting this is not to be missed. Hopefully Max will be the next steward of the property as he is invaluableWritten 27 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, MN8,539 contributionsCompleted by the French in 1710 and taken over by the British in 1763 following the French and Indian War (Seven Years War) fought for control of territory in the New World. It was also the site of the end of the Grenada Revolution in 1983. Fort George offers commanding views of the town, harbor and the surrounding coast. It is a modestly strenuous hike to get up here. It is worth visiting for the views alone. However, I deducted a point as the views are a 5 but the way the facility is managed is a 2. The Fort is getting renovated and most of it wasn't open for touring. Only a couple observation points were accessible. However, this did not stop them from still charging an entrance fee without informing me about the closures. When I politely requested by money back after returning to the entrance, I was rudely disregarded.Written 21 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anthony LBirmingham, UK9 contributionsIn August 23 and 24 I visited, first on holiday and then after Hurricane Beryl. What a great place , fantastic food all day , varied menu, evening entertainment. Exceptional beer brewed on site and a good choice. I have not done the brewery tour but I hope I will be back one day. Only down side was a shortage of merchandise. I wanted to take home merch to wear and remind myself of this enchanting place. Friendly staff. It's rustic but genuine. No fake stuff hereWritten 30 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
