Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- khslzhSingapore, Singapore30 contributionsWe climbed on 9 Sept, started at almost 5am, prob 4deg, no rain although it rained the previous evening. There were about 5 cars in the carpark. It was dark so headlights were extremely impt to help manoeuvre amidst rocky paths and cow dung (a lot a lot!!). Not a difficult climb but definitely tedious due to the upslope. We rested whenever we needed to, just 5mins was enough to allow us to catch our breath and continue. It was a bit chilly but no strong winds. We had windbreakers, fleece, heattech inners, gloves - enough to keep warm. Halfway, it started to snow, and the entire way up was covered in snow. Lucky we had hiking shoes on, so it helped with the grip. We saw people giving up halfway due to the huge change in weather - either not enough layers or bad shoes like sneakers. We didn't managed to get to the lookout by sunrise, but caught a really pretty picture midway.
At the lookout, due to the snow, we couldn't see anything below. But we were the only ones there :) The way down was difficult cos it was really slippery. Further lower down, it was muddy and slippery with wet paths. And due to a hiccup with my shoes - i lost both soles, I was coming down with gripless shoes.
Lucky we also brought hiking poles, really useful with the balance. By the time we were down, it was sunny without rain. We experienced sun, rain and snow all in 1 hike :) In a nutshell, be really prepared for sudden change in weather if u want to hike and enjoy Roy's. Took us about 3hrs to get up, but longer to come down due to my shoes. But we reckon it will be 3hrs or lesser if i had good shoes.Written 18 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I would even just spend a day exploring the lower aspiring valley. I saw like 10 Kea in the area!. booking the hut for 2 nights seemed like a good idea There is lots of time to go at an easy pace and enjoy the scenery. You will need to book through the Department of Conservation NZ web site. If you book, you just need to take cooking stuff and food, The DOC provides a mattress bunk and a gas stove. Aspiring hut is quite big and cozy. There are options to pitch a tent outside; its cheaper but you don't have access to Gas stove. Booking Hut cost $60NZD per person per nightWritten 31 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Pippa HLondon, UK87 contributionsFab hike! Pretty steep so bring plenty of food and water. Very well marked paths though so you won't get lost, and the views up the top are stunning. It was pretty busy the day we went as Roys peak was closed. Would also recommend going early so you're not going up in peak of sun. Be careful to get down before dark too as there are loose stones.Written 15 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Katie R16 contributionsI've been to a lot of tourist information places, and this was great. Perfect balance of every tourist activity brochure you could ask for (activities, wineries, skiing, Milford Sound, the list goes on) as well as a beautiful section of non touristy souvenirs. Happy friendly staff.Written 20 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Karen C6 contributionsBeautiful walk taking you into an alpine environment. I would rate it up there with Hooker Valley. From the valley floor with the beautiful Blue Matukituki river, up through Beech forest, then out io the Upper lookout in alpine vegetation. To the stunning views of the Rob Roy Glacier. It has a bit of everything.
Cool drive in with some fun fords towards the end - watch for stock! Park at Raspberry Creek picnic area and follow the well marked track. Cross the swing bridge - take photos up the valley, and then climb steadily through the Beech forest. Lower lookout at 4km, but make sure you carry onto the upper lookout, another 1 km on. Beautiful views of glacier and waterfalls coming off it. Do it!Written 24 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OzetravellersGold Coast, Australia1,105 contributionsWe have been riding in many countries around the world and this was one of the most pleasurable experiences we have had. Deb’s horses are so well trained - an absolute pleasure to ride. At first I was a bit worried as there were 2 beginners with us and I thought they may slow our ride but often throughout the ride Debbie would take the beginners ahead and the three of us would canter /gallop to catch up. Most horses would be jumpy hanging back but not these horses! Perfectly chilled. Deb gave us such a great tour of the back country , teaching us about the history, flora and fauna constantly. She also took photos and videos and sent them to us afterwards. It was a pleasant 1 hour 20 from Queenstown but well worth it. We also had lunch at Dunstan house in Clyde on the way back - recommended by Deb and well worth it.Written 7 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I feel blessed to have seen the remote, hard to get access to areas of New Zealand. The views were fantastic and we were treated by the weather gods to great days and stunning nights.Written 24 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JoJo SSunshine Coast, Australia296 contributionsIn our short trip to Wanaka, this happened to be the only day the mountain was opened due to high winds closing the mountain on the other days. It was busy, only the main run open in the morning until noon so line up for the chairlift was extensive and then the run was like an overcrowded motorway. Snow wasn't much chop but hey you that's the joys of skiing and boarding, we can't control the weather or the conditions. I took a hit which put me out for the rest of the day so spent the rest off our time on the mountain in the cafe relaxing over coffees and warm ginger beers (yum!!), taking in the amazing views of Wanaka below and chatting to various people whilst I waited for my friends to finish enjoying their day. I will definitely return to this mountain, it has a lot on offer.Written 13 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The guides where amazing. Me and my mates are hard to put up with at the best of times... let alone hanging off the side of a mountain but they loved every moment of it.
The experience and views where mind blowing but the guides made it 100 times better.
Oh and the lunch was amazing.

Klaus leads a coaching team with a depth of talent and expertise - matched by their warmth and genuine commitment to their guests' skiing goals. Out with the bad habits; in with renewed confidence and 'beautiful turns'. Sofa's detailed video analysis is the kind of thing you might expect for a serious racer - but its made accessible for recreational skiers of varying abilities intermediate and up. Will be back.Written 10 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
