Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- khslzhSingapore, Singapore30 contributionsWe climbed on 9 Sept, started at almost 5am, prob 4deg, no rain although it rained the previous evening. There were about 5 cars in the carpark. It was dark so headlights were extremely impt to help manoeuvre amidst rocky paths and cow dung (a lot a lot!!). Not a difficult climb but definitely tedious due to the upslope. We rested whenever we needed to, just 5mins was enough to allow us to catch our breath and continue. It was a bit chilly but no strong winds. We had windbreakers, fleece, heattech inners, gloves - enough to keep warm. Halfway, it started to snow, and the entire way up was covered in snow. Lucky we had hiking shoes on, so it helped with the grip. We saw people giving up halfway due to the huge change in weather - either not enough layers or bad shoes like sneakers. We didn't managed to get to the lookout by sunrise, but caught a really pretty picture midway.
At the lookout, due to the snow, we couldn't see anything below. But we were the only ones there :) The way down was difficult cos it was really slippery. Further lower down, it was muddy and slippery with wet paths. And due to a hiccup with my shoes - i lost both soles, I was coming down with gripless shoes.
Lucky we also brought hiking poles, really useful with the balance. By the time we were down, it was sunny without rain. We experienced sun, rain and snow all in 1 hike :) In a nutshell, be really prepared for sudden change in weather if u want to hike and enjoy Roy's. Took us about 3hrs to get up, but longer to come down due to my shoes. But we reckon it will be 3hrs or lesser if i had good shoes.Written 18 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So many bars, eateries, information places and somewhere to pick up your groceries for the motorhome. Plenty of parking for motorhomes too.Written 25 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jake T4 contributionsWill need to book transportation from Wanaka to the Raspberry Hill carpark, think its around $180nzd one way. spent 2 nights at Aspiring hut before doing a day hike to Liverpool hut. I would even just spend a day exploring the lower aspiring valley. I saw like 10 Kea in the area!. booking the hut for 2 nights seemed like a good idea There is lots of time to go at an easy pace and enjoy the scenery. You will need to book through the Department of Conservation NZ web site. If you book, you just need to take cooking stuff and food, The DOC provides a mattress bunk and a gas stove. Aspiring hut is quite big and cozy. There are options to pitch a tent outside; its cheaper but you don't have access to Gas stove. Booking Hut cost $60NZD per person per nightWritten 31 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

So good having the safety of our own warm private hut to return to in the evenings. - Eadie DAustin, TX4 contributionsWe had heard so much about this wonderful place and it lived up to what we had heard, it was beautiful. If you enjoy gardens and bulbs and animals then you will enjoy coming here. There are many places to sit and enjoy the gardens and we bought some lovely gifts to take home too. We really enjoyed the garden planning and views here. We would love to come back again with famuily as it is perfect for children to run and play. Thank you.Written 8 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- KiwiColleenNew Zealand77 contributionsDid this hike by myself one morning on a beautiful sunny day. The views were absolutely stunning - I recommend starting on the Wanaka side for the loop, although some people walked to the top then headed back down the same way. As we were staying off Aubrey Road, I ended up taking the link track back that way which I really enjoyed. Steep in places. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.Written 31 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- pkh213Fairfax, VA172 contributionsDriving on Haast Pass and the Mount Aspiring National Park toward Wanaka, we stopped at the sign for the Blue Pools Track as we heard someone mentioning it was a nice spot. We hiked back to the spot which took about 30 minutes. The bridge was closed but we were able to make our way to the shore. The water is cold and crystal clear. It looked like a popular swimming spot too. Worth a visit!Written 18 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sharon F27 contributionsHad a wonderful tasting with Ian. He was so friendly and it was so much fun. We had a group of 8 people and just dropped in late in the afternoon, it didn't phase Ian at all. Met the 2 beautiful dogs and bought the mystery pack, and some other lovely wines. All the wines were great.Written 23 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Stina65 contributionsWe hiked this with my 60+ parents and it was doable but difficult - especially the parts with scrambling up/down rocks, where having hiking poles was very helpful. The views were wonderful. We took our time and this took us ~4.5 hours with multiple stops and taking it very easy. This felt like a great shorter alternative to Roy's Peak.Written 4 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
