- Neale1810Kingston-upon-Hull, UK3,362 contributionsWe had arrived into Whitianga the day before and noticed the weather for our stay would be mixed so chose the following day to do a boat trip as the weather was at its best.
We wanted to go to Cathedral Cove but didn’t particularly want to just get the water taxi or kayak from Hahei. We found that there was a company that goes for. Whitianga and does a trip that covers a large portion of the coast nearby as well as Cathedral Cove so that sounded perfect. Booked online for the next day without any problems.
Boat started boarding at 1015 for a 1030 start. It goes from the same jetty as the ferry across the estuary so was easy to find. It’s a. Yellow coloured boat which can probably sit around 15 people and has a roof (and side curtains if required!) to keep the sun at bay.
Our tour guide and captain was Sam. She did an excellent job throughout - good safety briefing and then a brilliant commentary as we toured the beaches and coves of this lovely coastline.
Views were incredible and saw a lot of fish as well.
An excellent way to spend a couple of hours and see what you can’t see from land. We did Cathedral Rock….but the sea caves we went through and into were even more interesting and fun. The ‘Captain’ gave good information on what we were seeing and the history. Thanks to Brian for making sure everyone had a great day, while also keeping everyone safe. It was the best experience ever .
Our guide was explaining things about all the different places , her driving skills were epic . Bring us right in to the holes to experience the full beauty around us .
And turning in circles to see the fish below so clearly .
I would recommend this trip to everyone who can go .

Before snorkeling they took us by Cathedral Cove and we spent several minutes looking at the beach and its famous arch from different angles from our boat - really cool!
