What a great experience! Beautiful animals that are well cared for and loved. This organization rescues animals that might not survive otherwise. They are true heros! We will definitely go again next time we visit. ❤️❤️❤️

It's a beautiful spot with a well-curated collection in downtown Jacksonville.

The smaller museum has works by notable artists and other interesting collections. It's a nice way to spend the afternoon. In addition are the gardens which, although smaller, are really beautiful and photogenic. You can imagine what this might have been like as a private home, especially with the originial representation of a former owner's sitting room attached.

The cafe was also quite good. We had the quinoa and the crab cake. Both were very enjoyable and even came with the option to enjoy outside.

The neighborhood is fine with shops and a park close by, just watch your step crossing the street in typical Florida traffic.

We enjoyed our morning at the Jacksonville Zoo—it was our first time visiting, as we are new to the area. Parking was easy and free. Getting our tickets was also easy. As first timers, I will start by saying that the zoo layout is a little confusing and signage is spotty—we aren’t actually sure that we saw everything, but I’m sure we’ll be back, so if we missed anything we’ll catch it next time. At times we weren’t always sure what we were seeing, as not all of the animals have signage around them. There is probably an app, but we didn’t really want to be glued to our phones while enjoying the zoo, so we just went with the flow.

The gardens in the zoo are gorgeous—so many different plants and flowers. They do a beautiful job with landscaping and maintaining them. We were also impressed with the variety of wildlife. We enjoyed watching the otters and seeing the giraffes and the jaguars and the elephants. We were also there during the lantern festival. We didn’t get to see them lit up at night, but even during the day they are impressive and really add to the beauty of the zoo!

Finally, I’ll comment on the food—we ate at one of the restaurants in the zoo, Palm Plaza Café. We ordered, got our food and ate outside. We watched one of the zoo staff give a presentation on exotic birds while we ate, which was cool. The food was outstanding—it was not your typical zoo fare like hot dogs and grilled cheese. It was a little more upscale. It was also a little more expensive, but we didn’t mind the pricing because the food was so good.
Overall a great zoo that I’d highly recommend spending a few hours at if you’re in the Jacksonville/northeast Florida area!

On our visit to Jacksonville we visited the Kingsley Plantation. It is part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve which is a National Park Service site. Kingsley Plantation is about a 35 minute drive from Fort Caroline which is also part of Timucuan.
Kingsley Plantation is the former plantation of Zephaniah Kingsley who was a slave trader and planter who grew sea island cotton on the land. He had many enslaved persons on his plantation who did nearly all the labor to keep the plantation functioning and to make wealth for him. Even his wife, Anta, was one of enslaved people captured and brought over from Africa.
It was interesting to learn the history of the place and of Florida in the late 1700s and 1800s.
The planter's house was open to visit while we were there, but it is only open to go inside on certain weekends. There was a barn to visit as well as the kitchen house. Near the front of the property are the ruins of the quarters that were built for the enslaved people who lived and worked on the property. It was very sobering and somber to visit the ruins of the houses that were built for the people who were enslaved to work so hard on the land. I recommend a visit; it is informative and sobering.

I love Big Talbot state park!
It is a wonderful state park because it is different from most. On their beach you can find driftwood as well as cool little teepee style buildings (if you will) that people have built with some of the driftwood. There is a lot of brush to get past and for most of the beach, you have to hurtle over branches (the beach is very long so it isn’t that big of an issue). Anyway, Big Talbot state park is awesome and I recommend you take a day trip there!

It was a nice state park with a beach. We weren't planning on swimming so wasn't bummed about the rip tide warning. It was just nice and relaxing. We wanted to do the nature walk but couldn't figure where the path started. Wish it had been clearly marked and easy to get to. The drive is long so be prepared for that and a $5 entry fee which is not bad at all. They had nice bathhouses with restrooms and lots of picnic tables. The other reviews I read stated this place was practically dead but there were lots of people when we went. Still everyone was spread out and was not overly crowded. Nice if you just want a nice escape for a bit.

My husband and I visited when in Jacksonville for the Mayo Clinic. We visited to picnic and check out the campground. Even though it began storming we enjoyed our visit. Easy and pretty walkways out to the beach. Well kept. We look forward to returning to camp.

Great location - shielded from the sun (under the overpass); wonderful variety of vendors (food and other merchandise); very nice addition to our weekend plans.

I'll definitely return when I'm in Jacksonville 😊

Spectacular views of the river and city line. Level pavement shared by walkers, cyclists. and joggers. Benches throughout. Finding parking was challenging. Walking under bridge was fascinating.
