What travellers are saying
- PeasmoldWWPeasmoldtown328 contributionsThe setting is stunning, the archaeology extraordinary, the trail layout well conceived and the amount of information just right. This is a fabulous place, not to be missed on a trip to the region. Probably best to visit 'out of season' to avoid crowds (though the cafe is closed).Written 16 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mauiwedding1997Westfield, IN104 contributionsWe were in Albuquerque for the international balloon festival and were looking for things to do on an off afternoon. Because our son is a nuclear engineer and we’ve seen the movie Oppenheimer we were interested in going. The museum was staffed with lovely people and we enjoyed a nice indoor outdoor experience. I especially liked the lodge and feeling like I stepped back in time.Written 10 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - VivCLEShaker Heights, OH4 contributionsIf you are driving from Santa Fe to Los Alamos for a tour, this is an excellent trail to complete on the way; allow yourself 1.5-2H.
Although few ruins, there are petroglyphs and scenic views.

It was very interesting and it’s free!Written 4 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- NoraatcSudbury, MA40,649 contributionsIf you have time, do not miss stopping at the Frijoles Canyon Overlook.
Beautiful Frijoles Canyon was carved over thousands of years by the waters of Frijoles Creek. Breathtaking view near the gates to Bandelier National Monument!Written 15 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We dropped in to look at the bird feeder and we’re thrilled to see a couple of pigmy nuthatches. Then to find the place open, inside were interactive learning features for kids, reptiles (corn snake, milk snake, hog nose snake, skink and a salamander) which thrilled the kids. An observation deck, enclosed, looked out over a certified National wildlife habitat overlooking the canyon. We watched chipmunks, squirrel, acorn woodpecker, goldfinch, purple finch, white breasted and Pygmy nuthatches, black chinned and rufous hummers as they fed and watered themselves without bothering with us. Highly recommend this place!Written 1 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- RoverPInverness, UK799 contributionsHelpful staff. There is not a great deal to do here, but it is a good first port of call in Oder to ensure you make good use of your time in visiting the Manhattan project and the Bandelier National Monument.Written 14 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Vickers55Cambridge, UK1,076 contributionsIt’s a lovely small park with well curated plants and a nice small lake. Oasis of calm and shade in centre of town. - NostalgiyeahBothell, WA2,068 contributionsThe overlook is on NM-502, just a few miles east of Los Alamos. Since it is a pull-off on the highway, this doesn't require taking any detours and you can judge for yourself if you want to stop here for five minutes or thirty. It is easier to access driving westward on NM-502, since it is on that side of the road, and just around a curve in the road making it a tad harder to turn your car left, if driving eastward from Los Alamos. Easy accessibility aside, there are some wonderful views of New Mexico landscape, with blue skies strumming as a perfect backdrop. The panoramic view is breathtaking, the valley will make for some unforgettable sunset photos if you are there in time for the setting sun. Even otherwise, the valley is a very peaceful site to look at and enjoy for at least a few minutes, before heading on out to your destination.Written 15 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
