What travellers are saying
- Mackenzie M23 contributionsPoipu was great! It was somewhat windy, but if you sit past the main beach over by the hotel it is protected from the wind. While we were there a seal and many beach turtles were sleeping on the beach. Volunteers did create a perimeter to protect the animals but you could around close to them to get pictures.
The snorkeling was great here even very close to the shore. I was actually worried about stepping on sea urchins, that is how close they are.
If you do make it here make sure to get a hot dog at Puka Dog, they were incredible!Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nor are there trail markings along the way. You basically just follow the beaten path. We ended up doing this trail from two different approaches. The first time we drove down a long dirt road with lots of potholes and the trail was rugged and through lots of prickly shrubbery. The second time we started from Shipwreck Beach, which I think if the official starting point, and the trek was much more enjoyable and picturesque. I would definitely encourage the hike starting from Shipwreck Beach. Lots of views and stopping points along the rugged coastline with the pounding waves of the ocean below. It was definitely the highlight. Shipwreck Beach was a great place to sit and relax in the shade and enjoy the Hawaiian atmosphere. The highlight of our first attempt was walking to the cave and seeing into that amazing site. We missed the opening hours of the cave, but the views from the outside were impressive. At that point we were also able to cross over a small bridge to visit a turtle refuge. The turtles are in enclosures and there wasn't any signage to explain why, or what type of turtles that they were.Written 1 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tom sDuvall, WA274 contributionsThis area is beautiful. With all the varieties of trees, plants, and interesting statues, and structures. Our guide Michael was awesome. He is very informed, and really knows what the group wanted to know, and see. He knows scientific names for flora, and trees, and even knows where the movie industry used in various films, like "Donavan's Reef", "Jurassic Park", and "Pirates of the Caribbean". As well as others. It was a beautiful evening, and even the Bento Boxes were very good. We were very impressed with the entire experience, and will go back again, the next visit to Kauai. We want to Thank Michael for the experience!Written 18 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Emily H10 contributionsWhat an amazing tour! We chose the Best of Both Worlds Tour and was so happy that we did. We got onto a shuttle and literally was transported to Shangri-La. The sounds of birds chirping, the lush trees and vegetation make you forget about the hustle and bustle you just came from. You get to walk around and see exotic flowers, the famous
Moerton Bay fig trees (Jurassic Park and , the Mermaid Fountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean), and the Diana waterfall. But the highlight of the tour was when you turn the corner and arrive at the Allerton House. The large sprawling yard sprinkled with coconut trees overlooking Lawai'i Bay just takes your breath away. Time stands still and all you can do is look around in awe of its beauty. Such a unique and wonderful experience!Written 11 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I wouldn't say it was worth going out of your way to find, unless you had never seen a spouting horn before. It is a quick stop to take some photos and then to carry on with your day.Written 1 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ORMumLake Oswego, OR153 contributionsAmazing views especially if you go up the trail to the top. You get some amazing views of the ocean breaking on the many rocks which is probably how this beach gets its name. One of our favorite beach views in Kauai.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- James F237 contributionsThe cliffs are nice to look at from Shipwreck Beach. The trail from the beach to the top of the cliffs is not too difficult. The view of the ocean and the beach is very nice from the top.
We had our only while sighting while in Kauai from the top of the cliffs. Warning: some unwise people actually jump from these cliffs despite the warning signs. Don't watch.Written 20 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The market stands were spread out throughout the shopping center. So it is possible to spend some pleasant time shopping the market and shops.Written 19 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Katy T17 contributionsThe best time to snorkel at this beach is at low tide. Even when the waves are at their calmest it’s still difficult to enter and exit the ocean due to the rocks. Best spot is in front of the surf shop where there’s a sandy patch to the right of a large rock. Beware of the riptides on the right side of the bay. It’s best to swim between the middle of the bay and the Beach House. It’s definitely a workout, but we saw turtles and a lot of fish. If you’re not an expert swimmer, then definitely go to Poipu Beach for a more relaxed and easy snorkel experience. No lifeguards at this beach to save you if you get into trouble. Also a popular spot to watch the sunset.Written 16 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- YvonneV1954Urbana, IL106 contributionsJust steps from our condo, this was a wonderful place to snorkel. Boss Frogs Rentals is right at the beach, adjacent to the Beach House restaurant. We were quickly & well fitted with snorkel gear & on our way. Access was very easy & the underwater views were spectacular!Written 21 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
