Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- MJ_ontheBAYWallonia, Belgium119 contributionsVA Beach boardwalk is a pleasant place for quality family time, a run/walk or even to just sit and take in the ocean views.
Boardwalk is just a legacy term it seems as the modern day build is made out of concrete I think and clearly reinforced to sustain the might of hurricanes/adverse weather. Smart move but doesn’t have the old timely feel of wooden boards. The bike path adjacent to the walkway is a great touch though.
In terms of food options and hotels.. you have a plethora to pick from covering all different price ranges. Plenty of walking and handicap access points for the boardwalk into the sand too.
Only reasons I couldn’t quite give it 5 stars include a chaotic parking situation to access the boardwalk, unwieldy crowds during peak summertime and it isn’t quite as clean as I remember.
Regardless, it’s still worth a visit if you’re in the Hampton Roads area.Written 1 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Kevin R123 contributionsSandbridge is great if you love spending time on the beach and want space to be able to spread out. Sandbridge is mostly large beach homes so it lacks the density of places with high rise condos. The beach is wide and the sand is clean. Water temperature and conditions can vary. If you are a bit adventurous, rent an ocean kayak and you can paddle in close proximity to dolphins that swim up and down the coast.
Sandbridge is NOT the best choice if your ideal vacation includes eating out, walking along a board walk, playing mini golf /putt putt, and/or shopping. If that's what you want, you're better off at Virginia Beach.Written 20 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kleicSan Antonio, TX1,094 contributionsIf you're in the area and want a little history and a great walk, this is definitely a place to stop! The Visitor's Center is super interesting and there are lots of short and medium and long walks to choose from. Apparently it is also a very popular camping spot.Written 22 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ryan DDover, OH16 contributionsNorth end was quiet, clean, uncrowded. Could often see the dolphins just off the beach. Wide concrete boardwalk, steady flow of people, walking, biking, riding weird little pedal carts they rented farther down the boardwalk. Good people-watching.Written 17 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Skip GSaint Louis, MO2,014 contributionsBe forewarned, the lighthouses are on a military base, Fort Story. All visitors to the lighthouses have to go security checks. Visitors can go up in the old lighthouse but not the newer one that is still in use. There is a nice gift shop. Visitors must use the shuttle from the parking lot near the base entrance to get to the lighthouses.Written 23 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DrewP69 contributionsBack Bay National Wildlife Refuge is an excellent nature reserve located in southern Virginia Beach. The visitors center is very informative. There are hiking and biking trails, launches for canoes and kayaks. - carolj524Elmont, NY187 contributionsChix on the Beach is amazing. We try to get there at last once while on vacation. We never had to wait long. The staff is super nice. The food was so good. My daughter and I had the sword fish. Melted in your mouth. Veery good. My daughter-in-law had a lobster tail and she said it was sweet tender and juicy. My son can't have shellfish, so he had a burger with all the fixings. After we filled our bellies, we went outside to listen to the music. I would have loved to stay longer but everyone wanted to leave. They were playing my type of music...60's! We did have a nice time at Chix.Written 5 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
