Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Monika W51 contributionsUnfortunately, it is closed during the winter, but we were able to walk in the gardens. There were a few visitors who were walking there. Nobody chased us away. The garden is big and nice with a lot of paths to walk. We will be back there but in spring or summer.Written 20 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jebidiah-69Livingston, UK269 contributionsIf you are a fan of sanitary wear, victoriana, tiles or just sneaking into mens toilets, then this is possibly the best example of a public convenience of its like in Scotland. Grab a passing stranger or better still a male in your party (in our case) to check the coast is clear and enjoy!Written 15 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sue RSelby, UK252 contributionsThis is where the main ferry arrives and the only town on Bute. It has lots of nice cafes and shops and a harbour. Nothing amazing but nothing bad either. A good starting place to explore the island.Written 20 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- IslaNew York231 contributionsVisited on a weekday around noon with my wife. As there was a choice of 7 gins and 1 rum, we decided to purchase a flight each (4 samples per flight) so we could try them all. Wonderful service from the lady at the bar, and interesting flavors incorporated into the gins. We really enjoyed our visit and would happily return to sample the cocktail menu.
The only recommendation I would have for the distillery is to provide snacks/food options. I'm amazed that the only thing they sell is crisps?! We would have stayed longer and drank more had there been options for food.Written 9 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Iain M11 contributionsFor such a small shop, the vast variety of books in stock is amazing. Visited several times over the week. We were able to order a book which arrived a few days later. Also they arranged for a book to be sent direct to my home from the author as the book I was looking for wasn’t in stock.
Excellent service, always on hand to help in every way they could.

Do pop in and support them.Written 5 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

Staff are very friendly with the many regulars and visitors. Wendy, the manager, runs a great wee place. Well worth a visit. My father's weekend pub. A pub with a community. Rare these days.Written 25 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The owners have made a great job of the rebuild. Great pint of Belhaven. The 1st night was very quiet but bar staff was very friendly football was on the tv but not very loud. The 2nd night there were 3 people in who used to live in Bury. A really enjoyable night with a lot of laughs. If you are visiting Rothesay or are a local I would recommend this small bar. Looking forward to my next visit to Bute and will certainly make another visit.Written 25 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
