Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Sue RSelby, UK252 contributionsThis is where the main ferry arrives and the only town on Bute. It has lots of nice cafes and shops and a harbour. Nothing amazing but nothing bad either. A good starting place to explore the island.Written 20 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- IslaNew York231 contributionsVisited on a weekday around noon with my wife. As there was a choice of 7 gins and 1 rum, we decided to purchase a flight each (4 samples per flight) so we could try them all. Wonderful service from the lady at the bar, and interesting flavors incorporated into the gins. We really enjoyed our visit and would happily return to sample the cocktail menu.
The only recommendation I would have for the distillery is to provide snacks/food options. I'm amazed that the only thing they sell is crisps?! We would have stayed longer and drank more had there been options for food.Written 9 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cleatoruk11 contributionsVery serene and spiritual place. It’s a bit of a walk but worth it. You follow the road up the coast from Ettrick Bay. Follow it until the tarmac runs out where there is a small car park where there is a house set back called Glecknabae. The tarmac road gives way to a farm track. You follow the track on foot alongside the Kyles of Bute. The views are restricted by trees most of the way but still pleasant. The track at first passes a farm on your right after about 300 yards and eventually after a mile or so you arrive at St Michael’s grave (on the left of the track). It is directly opposite a white cottage on the right of the track. It is easily visible from the road. There is no public footpath to it but seemingly the way to do it is just to unhitch the gate and cross the field - to the grave (about 100 yards). This is not in itself spectacular but you get a great view down the Kyles. Return to the track and continue for another 500 yards or so until you reach another farm. Just before the farm is a public footpath sign on the left pointing across the field to the Chapel. You cross two fields to reach it. It is unsurprisingly a ruin but you can make out various features and use your imagination!. It does have a special atmosphere with good views across to Kames. We had a nice clear day. I can’t imagine what it is like if it’s raining. Glad we visited.Written 10 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Iain M11 contributionsFor such a small shop, the vast variety of books in stock is amazing. Visited several times over the week. We were able to order a book which arrived a few days later. Also they arranged for a book to be sent direct to my home from the author as the book I was looking for wasn’t in stock.
Excellent service, always on hand to help in every way they could.

Do pop in and support them.Written 5 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

The owners have made a great job of the rebuild. Great pint of Belhaven. The 1st night was very quiet but bar staff was very friendly football was on the tv but not very loud. The 2nd night there were 3 people in who used to live in Bury. A really enjoyable night with a lot of laughs. If you are visiting Rothesay or are a local I would recommend this small bar. Looking forward to my next visit to Bute and will certainly make another visit.Written 25 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
