Had a nice few hours in Largs. Have no issue with paying for the car parking. 3 hours for £3.00. Is way better than what you have to pay if you park in Glasgow City Centre.

Not too busy as during the week and weather not the best, but that is a Scottish summer for you. Got to make the most of it.

This interesting monument is situated on Bowen Craig near the water along the Firth of Clyde. The monument is approximately 17 metres high with a diameter at its base of three metres and just over two metres at the top. It is constructed of Whinstone with the pinnacle being of hewn red sandstone. The architraves around the doors and windows are made of Ashlar that contain Celtic moulds. The doorway, which is elevated off the ground, has an oak door. The monument was erected in 1912.

It stands proudly on the point as a lasting reminder of when the Scots defeated the Vikings and drove them away permanently from Largs.

A fascinating place with well-preserved murals. Intriguing! Set within an old churchyard with pretty shrubs and flowers. A locked area is nearby...

We had a great time at Largs Museum. Guides were so welcoming and friendly, the exhibits are very interesting and give a great overview of the historic people and places of Largs & District. If you get the chance, definitely take them up on the tour of the Skelmorlie Aisle. Our guide was a font of knowledge and it was great to hear the backstory and interpretations of the beautiful 17th century painted ceiling and ornamental tomb. We also heard some remarkable stories of who has been buried in the graveyard, from Brisbane to local domestic servants and schoolteachers. Being able to buy old postcards and interesting second-hand historical books was also a great touch. We had the best time, make sure you visit this gem of a Museum!

This trail is 3 blocks from our AirBnb, so we did it 2x.
It is a fantastic 5k loop with water, views, and a bridge. If you are into Geocaching there are 18 along this trail.
Highly recommend as the views are phenomenal if the weather cooperates!

We recently visited this lovely waterfall. As previous reviewers have mentioned it does require some scrambling down to, so I would not recommend it for young children, but exciting for older children if they are adventurous but sensible!

To find the waterfall head inland from the A78 along Fairlie Moor Road (towards Dalry), parking on the left immediately after the first cattle grid (space for 5-6 cars). Walk back down the hill to the first metal gate on the left. You will see signs of a manmade path going downhill diagonally across the field. Take this path until you reach the opposite corner of the field. From here pick up the forest track leading into woodland. You will hear the river. Very soon you reach a footbridge over the river. Instead of going over the footbridge pick up a very small path leading west along the north side of the river (ie. heading downstream) & very soon you can reach the view at the top of the waterfall. To get to the bottom of the fall continue along a small path higher up alongside a fence & then scrambling down though the hillside. It was very muddy & slippery so please take care, but it was worth the scramble.
Perhaps it is possible to access it different ways too, but this was our first attempt so I hope it helps!

Had a very interesting and pleasant visit. Only two of us on that particular tour. Guide was great and gave us so much information. Took a deal of time to answer all our questions and did not rush us despite there being only the two of us. Sparked an interest to learn more of the Vikings.

We drove up the hill to the car park where an information board pronounced we were at Haylie Brae or at the start of the path to the viewing point. It was about a ten minute walk to get to the main viewpoint.

Luckily it was a fine day and we had a great view over Largs, The Firth of Clyde and the islands of Cumbrae, Bute and Arran.

    Well worth a visit.

Always a winner. We have sailed with Calmac a few times in Scotland and we find the service well priced and efficient. The ferries visit the island of Scotland in all directions, and is one of the best ways to island hop.

Had a really enjoyable trip here today. We were just having a look from outside when a lady stopped to tell us that we could go in and have a look around and I’m glad we did.

We met two lovely knowledgeable members who set us up with audio guides. We spent some time wandering around, I thoroughly enjoyed the audio guide it was very informative and just the right length.

The windows are spectacular, it’s worth a visit just to see these. However I think my favourite part was the small Stewart Chapel.

If we are ever back in Largs on a Sunday we’ll definitely come along to a service.

We walked up here from the sea front and were impressed with the work that is undergone to bring it back to its former glory, and still undergoing! Nice areas to walk around, with paths that lead off elsewhere...but we weren't sure where to! Worth a visit if in the area to check on progress etc.
