A hidden gem, really interesting site with knowledge guides who bring the place to life and the best bit is it is local history that your family members may have used.
... well worth a visit could do with being able to explore more or the tunnels but this can be done on a more in depth visit (pretty book only) and access to more sites would be good too but in all a good attraction

You can combine a visit with a walk further up the Goyt Valley to visit the Mellor Mill Archaeological Dig site or the Roman Lakes.
Great atmosphere where you can view the animals, go for a walk along the river, let children play in the play area or just grab a brew and a butty.

The highlight of the visit for me was seeing where Elizabeth Gaskell actually wrote, imagining the view she would have had and the life of the house around her as she created such wonderful books.
Although few original possessions remain, the site is fitted up as it would have been when occupied by the Gaskills.

The church is quite small and relatively plain on the outside, a stark contrast to the interior which is really quite fine and elaborate, there is a Cefe on site which serves 'proper' snacks at reasonable prices.
