Best time to go up is before sunset and come down after the sunsets to see the city lit up - this is great also for history buffs - small museum w self guided tour - it is close to 150 years old !
The views are one of a kind and the attached museum is very informative and gives a great background to the history of Pittsburgh.

We were amazed at the fantastic exhibits, which equal and often surpass those of the Smithsonian museums in Washington.
The Heinz History Center is among the best regional museums anywhere in the U.S. The exhibits are visually appealing, professionally prepared, and "user friendly" in their interpretation.
