Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Expat655Moscow, Moscow City, Russia59 contributionsWish I could give six stars! We stopped by for a quick tasting and ended up staying a while. The tastings were catered to our individual preferences and all our many questions patiently answered. The Pinot noir was amazing - they have 4 different ones to try as well as white, rose and sparkling. Shame it was our last night. You can also buy bottles to take away at a discount.Written 27 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Oysters were amazing. Cheese plate quite lovely.
Genius to have this connected to Sentinel hotel. Rejoined the wine club.Written 11 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Free theater (if you are staying) and soaking tub were added bonuses. Food and drink were great. Quaint neighborhood. Felt like we got a taste of Portland’s quirky side without having to leave the hotel.Written 27 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RSNNPortland, OR6,303 contributionsI have a Mcmenamins passport and I needed just one more activity stamp to get a $20 gift card. There was a listing for a free lecture At the Mission Theater that sounded very interesting that just happened to qualify for an activity passport stamp. It was a Sunday and they also had an afternoon matinee of the Sci-Fi film “Flash Gordon”. Yeah, the one that Queen provided the soundtrack for. And they It screened that at 3 PM and for only $2 for Adults and kids.
So I went to the Mission Theater that day. What a deal!
The Mission Theater is an old looking brick building. It has a balcony in a semicircle shape that looks down on the stage that has a screen behind it. The seats in the balcony are comfortable and there are places you can place your food and drink.
The bar is below the balcony at the bar where you can buy a wide range of McMenamins drinks. Beer, cider, and cocktails. I was drinking the seasonal cider Blackberry cider. It is very tasty and makes for a nice change from beer. You can also buy food and snacks, but it is rather limited. Typical movie snack type items. Popcorn of course being one of them. And for me the always tempting comfort food– PIZZA.
A representative from Oregon MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) introduced the Paranormal Pub lecture mentioning that they are sponsored by MUFON and McMenamins. And that they cover a wide range of topics. Like UFOs, Extraterrestrials, Ghosts, ESP, Bigfoot and various other unexplained phenomenon. The Paranormal Pub is help once a month at the Mission Theater.
The lecture for tonight was Women & Spirituality: Paganism. The speaker was Montana Jordan, a freelance writer, occult specialist, parapsychological researcher, and independent consultant. She covered the basic branches of paganism. And the difference between them. Fascinating and enlightening. I saw several people sitting down at the front of the audience taking notes. And the question and answer discussion at the very end was even more interesting to listen to as it was much more in depth.
I quite enjoyed this paranormal pub activity they have at the Mission Theater. And even more so the excellent McMenamins drinks. Well, any excuse for a couple pints is a good excuse as far as I’m concerned. And it’s always so much more interesting when you have stimulating conversation to go with your drinksWritten 31 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If I had to do it again, I'd skip the non-pinot noir tasting list and stick to the good stuff. Very engaging staff and wonderful atmosphere.Written 10 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- ItalophiliaSan Francisco, CA46 contributionsGood food. My son loved the dates wrapped in bacon. - Dan WPortland, OR1,988 contributionsBarBar is still our place even through the pandemic. The outdoor patio is superb; covered, a film on the big screen and several fire pits and overhead heaters for chilly evenings. Besides the great classic burger, the onion rings are about the best I’ve had. The BTA (bacon, tomato and arugula is a great item as wellWritten 18 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RSNNPortland, OR6,303 contributionsIt was a joy being able to see Beats Antique at the Crystal ballroom. Always a pleasure and the highlight of my year if I can make it to their concert here. They put on some wild and awesome dance routines mixing belly dance with various other influences along with the music the band plays.
You can drink and watch the show from up in the balcony. You can stand down on the floor in the over 21 area and watch the chow closer up with your drink. Or you can go to the all ages side and try to get as close to the stage as you can. This is what I always end up doing after I've had a couple great McMenamins drinks to get primes and ready to embrace the music and show.
The decor of the Crystal Ballroom is amazing. you have round murals of people dancing and musicians playing. There are two impressive chandeliers hanging from the ceiling It is like a music palace beyond compare. Nothing like it anywhere. It is such an icon. It is truly an amazing venue for life music.Written 15 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It seemed intimate and all the staff I encountered were very friendly and helpful. It was a seamless check-in process. I just so happened to be visiting Portland when my favorite comic was going to be there. The menu isn’t extensive and there could be some more offerings, but I didn’t go there hungry, but was happy that it was a 2-item minimum and not just a 2-drink minimum like most clubs. If I’m ever in the area again, I would consider returning.Written 14 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - The MonarchParkland, WA2 contributionsThis is going to be my new favorite way to go to the movies. Online tickets were a little frustrating, the website isn’t put together that well but it didn’t take away from the fun experience we had. You can also buy tickets in person. Ticket prices are average, the same as a regular theater. Drinks were a little spendy, around $15 each but at least they were strong! We didn’t order food but it was on the slightly higher pricing side. Popcorn was normal priced, they use real butter so it’s a little different than movie theater popcorn. They’ll show you to your seats, give you menus and come back about 10-15 minutes later. Plus you can order timed drinks or foods so we got our second round about an hour and a half in. If you want drinks or food before hand they have a bar/lounge. If you want a drink as it starts, get there early. We arrived right on time and got our first round about 30 min into the movie (it was a 3 hour movie though). Also a plus if you don’t like crowds or kids, 21+ only. It’s a lot like having someone wait on you in a better version of your living room. The place itself looks amazing and is comfortable and classy.Written 31 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brad ChisholmLos Angeles, CA25 contributionsWhy drag your tired butt around Oregon when you can try all sorts of terrific glasses in one place, along with some good food? This is not a pretentious wine bar, when we were there they had a five wine tasting for $10. By L.A. standards that is beyond cheap and you don't have some sommelier with a nose ring hovering over you. The food is good, more homey than wine-bar-y. Grilled ham and cheese, home-made pea soup, excellent fries. I'd be in here every day if we lived here.Written 27 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- roadtrip_ken_2017Oakland, CA325 contributionsA friend had recommended Division Wine so I thought I'd stop in while visiting Portland recently. The wine shop part of the space is quite nice, with a very good selection that includes some harder-to-find bottles. It was a Friday afternoon and the place looked busy, with most if not all of the tables filled. I sat at the wine bar and checked out the by-the-glass list, which included a couple of sparkling wines plus about 10 each wine/rosé and red choices. They also offer a flight of any three. I went with a glass of Domaine de la Combe 2021 Muscadet, which was very nice. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, and the wine prices seemed reasonable. I'd certainly go back again the next time I'm in Portland.Written 23 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
