It's a fascinating ruin, with skeleton walls, in situ frescoes you get the best views of as you climb the stairs and great views from the top.
As some one who is afraid of heights, it was slightly uncomfortable getting to the top of the ruins but the view is magnificent and the opportunity to look at the ruins from different perspectives is well worth it.

Fantastic day for all the family, loads to do and plenty of shows, jousting, archery etc. Beautiful views from the castle and the tour guides were very knowledgable about the castles history, it was very interesting.
There was an excellent museum, wonderful architecture, good media guides, but also [as with the vast majority of English Heritage sites] a wonderful volunteer who was hugely knowledgeable about the site's history...
