Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- alisdair tWorkington, UK6,398 contributionsAlthough a ruin, the priory is steeped in so much history of Christianity. It dates from AD 634. It has been raided by Vikings, partially ruined, then rebuilt.. its final dissolution in 1536 as a result of Henry VIII's dissolution of the English church's ties to Rome, and his subsequent closing of the monasteries. The masterpiece now known as the Lindisfarne Gospels was created here in the early 8th century. The ruins now visible are those of a 12th-century priory, which claimed direct descent from the early monastery.Written 2 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PandamedicLichfield, UK5,917 contributionsWe visited here and just got in before closing time. Weather was horrible, with it being very overcastle and starting to rain.
Free entry for national trust members.
Entrance is very steep and slippery due to the weather.
Nice little castle and now doubt some good views to if it wasn't for the weather.Written 5 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Unfortunately virtually all the shops were shut, we managed to get some mead but that was it. Check carefully about opening times as Google maps isn’t correct.
Don’t ignore the tide times. It really comes in fast and don’t think about walking across.
We did stop at the lay-by near the land end of the causeway to watch the tide come in and the bird life that came with it.Written 17 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. As soon as you enter, you can feel the prayers and worship of hundreds of years. It is a very spiritual place. We first explored the Church on a Friday and went back on the Sunday for a Communion service. The service was lovely, simple, and meaningful. The Church is full of interesting displays and information. The carving of the Journey (monks carrying St Cuthbert's remains) is stunning and moving. There are many different prayer request facilities around the building, some are quite innovative. Would definitely return and recommend.Written 13 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Andrew B1 contributionThis is a really great museum and not only contains the facsimile of the Lindisfarn gospel but also lots on how it was made and a great deal about the plant and birdlife, with lots of short films.
The museum is easy to miss as the entrance looks just like a (good) card shop. The entry fee is tiny (probably to small) and well worth 45 minutes of your time.Written 3 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I'm not a massive gardener myself, but I think we missed all the flowers being in bloom - that said it was lovely and peaceful.Written 19 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David SMiddlesbrough, UK2,396 contributionsThe remains of a 17th century stone fort, apparently it was built in 1671 to house guns, which helped to protect the small harbour adjacent to it. The fort stands loud and proud over most things and truly importantly over the island. It's a relative short walk to get to and it's well worth the effort just for the views when you get to the top. Free to enter, very informative when inside, on a clear day the views are breathtaking.Written 18 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
