Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Anna HHoover, AL67 contributionsIt was a trip down memory lane for my husband, who had come here as a child in the 1960s. He was happy that the historic steam engine was still in operation. The wild west story of the train robbery doesn’t quite fit the hills of Appalachia. But the children seemed to enjoy it. Definitely try to sit in a middle car on the right side for the best view.
This is a good small amusement park for children under 10. Also good for grandparents who might tire of a larger park. There’s a nice petting/feeding zoo at the top of the mountain. Ride the gondola up for that.
As expected, the food offerings are not great. So maybe plan to eat before or after and just get a snack. Three to four hours should be plenty of time. To avoid a long hike, get there early to park in the upper level.Written 25 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. It is operated by the National Park Service. I arrived later in the day and missed all the tours of the building. Really wish I would have been able to see more of the building not only the front entryway and 2 or 3 gift stores. There are magnificent views from the front porch.
Property is popular with people taking walks/hikes.Written 15 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mike Christine Y7 contributionsThe views and grounds were beautiful! I only wish we'd arrived earlier so we could have toured the house. Even so, we enjoyed exploring the grounds and trails. - Anne and BobJAtlanta, GA623 contributionsWe had a great time at Mystery Hill. I definitely want to go back with my older grandchildren. I thought the guy leading the tour was a bit over the top with how he portrayed everything, but we still had a good time. Still can figure out how it is all done, yes I have read information online, but it was still very weird the way you feel when you get in the main room.Written 15 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FoodieLZGreensboro, NC2 contributionsFun way to spend a morning. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. We enjoying panning for marine fossils and arrowheads and a round of putt putt. Great way to spend a couple hours.Written 28 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- klamborjBoone, NC483 contributionsAs a Boone local we spend a ton of time paddeling Price Lake, hiking the trail around the lake, or hanging out there for full moons or other nighttime events. The park service does a great job maintaining the area. The campground is very nice. I definitely recommend this location for picnics, hiking, paddling. In April-June the DNR stocks Price Lake with trout. If you are looking for family fun, this area is hard to beat. Go ahead and come - you can thank me later.Written 11 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mika G42 contributionsLovely hiking trail near Blowing Rock (I walked there from downtown.). It’s an easy hike, but I still felt that I had a workout. There are places to sit and read or contemplate the lake.Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - J W12 contributionsThis is my go to place to ski in the NC mountains. Yes, I know Beech & Sugar have more and longer runs, but they also have a ton more people. Longest I've waited in the lift line at App is 10 minutes, compared to 30-45 minutes at Sugar & Beech. Less people also equals less idiots screaming down the hill at full speed and running into you. Yes, I've seen this at both Sugar and Beech. Both of those are good during the week, but for a weekend trip, App is the only way to go. Easy in and out. Close to Blowing Rock and Boone.Written 9 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PoppyGPSCharlotte, NC33 contributionsWe loved this little gem of an art museum!
The current exhibition by Maud Gatewood was terrific. I was unaware of her work prior to our visit but came away with a great appreciation of work over a long career.
By the way, the sign in the front says BRAHM, which is fine if you know what you're looking for.Written 25 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - charNaples, FL5 contributionsBlowing Rock Brewery is a fun place to grab a drink and dinner. It's a great atmosphere with locals and tourists having a great time. Linden Stokes and John McManus are among our favorite servers - very nice, patient and knowledgeable.
