Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Anna GZurich, Switzerland248 contributionsI went first opening in the morning on a warm summer day and it was quiet with just a few locals and a handful of tourists. The setting is just beautiful with birds flying around. The changing rooms were very clean. One pool is very hot - it is recommended to stay not more than 15 minutes. The second one is a nice warm temperature for a leisurely swim and there is a small section with a bit warmer water. The pool that you can see from the restaurant is cool but the waterfall is warm and a good shoulder massage. I was told the pools have a new lining but it was a bit slippery to enter the pools.
They have water stations as you are not allowed to bring your own bottle of water.Written 3 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were not disappointed, what a fantastic and truly unique experience! Danny was informative, amusing, entertaining and knowledgeable. The wine and other alcohol tasting was superb. Would definitely recommend for an authentic kiwi experience.Written 9 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GeneralShamuNew York City, NY1,274 contributionsEasy walk to two viewpoints that is ten minutes walk round trip. Total time needed is a max of thirty minutes here. Unless you have a large vehicle - RV, camper van, etc... - the drive should be relatively fine up to the top.Written 4 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rosemary W30 contributionsA long sany beach.
The most interesting thing is the Thomas Cook and Charles Green longitude sculpture. Which is located in pine trees beyond the very last houses on the east end of the beach front. There are no sign posts so difficult to find.
Having been to the Murcury bay museum in Whitianga to learn all about it and climbed Shakespear cliff to see the other monument everything fell into place.
It is a pity that all these significant events aren't promoted more.
We just happened to walk on Wharekaho beach and saw Moari poles. Having been to the museum we now understand the significance of these.Written 12 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was a delightful setting and we enjoyed the wines we chose to taste, selecting one to go with our meal which we all enjoyed. Well worth a visit as the setting is idyllic!Written 27 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tayla B1 contributionAwesome animal park, by far our favourite so far! Layout is amazing, we liked that some of the enclosures we could actually walk in them.Written 6 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Grant OBroadbeach, Australia47 contributionsThis unpretentious little museum afforded us a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment and education. We were fascinated by the history of the region, especially as Capt. James Cook’s visit here was only weeks before his official first landing in Australia.Written 15 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GeneralShamuNew York City, NY1,274 contributionsWe came here after visiting Shakespeare Cliff. A no brainer to stop here and walk down to the beach - round trip twenty minutes. Only about twenty minutes needed at the beach unless you plan to get in the water.Written 4 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GeneralShamuNew York City, NY1,274 contributionsExtensive beach with some lovely views of the bay. The northern end parking area has restrooms on site, plenty of parking and a couple benches for one to sit and take it all in.Written 4 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RichardAJohnEsher, UK106 contributionsA very nice walk, not too long and generates some super views. However one thing to note, if you suffer from any degree of vertigo, be warned the latter stages of the walk may not be for you.Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AllanJGJWellington, New Zealand4,419 contributionsA very short ferry trip across the inlet; cheap and easy and you can buy a return ticket on line. Passengers only. We were staying at Cook's Beach and this was definitely the easiest way to get backwards and forwards to Whitianga. A must whether as a method of public transport or if you just like ferry rides!Written 3 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
