Visited Francois Peron NP on organised 4WD tour. Collected from our hotel. Amazing full day tour of park made even better by the excellent tour guide Chelsea. She was extremely informative and enthusiastic about the amazing features and wildlife in the park. Lunch was provided and was more than expected

We did an amazing full day 4WD tour with Shark Bay tours to Francois Peron National Park. Luke the tour guide was excellent and did a great job looking after everyone on the tour, including our family of five. First stop was an extremely picturesque turquoise bay where, after a quick morning tea that Luke set up, we could paddle in warm water while sea turtles, sting rays and small reef sharks swam all around us. Luke provided a lot of information about the marine life and the surrounding area. Then onto Bottle Bay where there was more stunning scenery and a chance to swim/snorkel. We then proceeded to a lookout point for more amazing photography opportunities/wildlife spotting and a great lunch of wraps (select your own fillings so everyone could have what they wanted). The onto Skipjack Point which was another brilliant experience - the water was so pristine that you could clearly see all the marine life in the water - turtles, sting rays, sharks - we even saw a three metre long tiger shark! Final stop was at the homestead for a soak in the artesian tub. Would thoroughly recommend this tour and the Francois Peron National Park. It was an unbelievable experience, the scenery is breathtaking, and our whole family thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great part of the West Australian coast. Remote and unspoilt part of the world. Stay in Denham and it is an eas drive to Monkey Mia to see the dolphins, Francois Peron and Denham itself. Shark Bay is a unique place.

This place is just surrreal, one of only two places in world like it, a beach with not a single grain of sand, only coral grains in various stages of weathering and erosion. It feels so weird to walk on. One note of warning, do NOT come to this beach without sunglasses. My god the glare off the white coral in thew sun!

There is a fantastic view of the sheltered bay which is teeming with stingrays and sharks. The boardwalk on the cliff above allows you to watch the marine life swimming in the clear turquoise waters. Highly recommended

A quick stop off here on the way through.
BBQ and toilet facilities on the beach side. No running water.

Very nice bay offering nice views for your drone.

Warning signs for stoke-fish present so didn’t really use water.

Looks perfect for paddle boarding but maybe not for swimming.

We stopped at Hamelin Pool on our 200 mile drive from Carnarvon to Denham.
It was at Perth’s WA Museum Boola Bardip where we had read about these living microbial mats and were anxious to see them up close. Unfortunately the boardwalk was closed and these 4,000 year old stromatolites could only be seen at a distance but the site had good information.
Departing, we stopped at the nearby 1884 PO/Telegraph station and discovered signage for the Shell Quarry. After climbing the shell stone steps over the sand dune, we saw the cut blocks around its perimeter, stone used to build the 1954 Denham church and the 1974 Old Pearler Restaurant.
35 miles up the road, we stopped at the most impressive Shell Beach. The horseshoe shaped cove of Shark Bay, extending for miles in each direction, is made up by a rare cockle shell that was up to 30’ deep in places and when compacted it cements into limestone called coquina, the stone in Shell Quarry.

We came here as it was something to do on a rainy day

There is two sections - the free side with art gallery and a memorial for HMAS Sydney II with the fire on the water display. The other side is the discovery centre which you pay to enter

The fire on the water display was an amazing tribute to the brave men aboard the HMAS Sydney II who lost their lives in battle. It was very good to read and learn about our history - I still tell everyone I can about what I learnt!

The discovery centre is FULL on history and information on the region, however it was a bit overwhelming with all the reading, some more interactive stuff might be good. Lucky you can come back several days if you wanted too.

Definitely worth a visit and to support the centre itself

Worth a look if you are in the area, only a short walk from the car park. Interesting to look at, the tide was out when we visited it was good to stretch the legs.

The precinct is on the edge of the 2WD road in Francois Peron National Park. Like the other National Parks there is an entry gate at the entrance. The road isn't sealed but can be driven down in 2WD until the signage for 4WD only. The opening status of the park can be seen at the Sharks Bay Heritage and Discovery center in Denham.
This is the only 2WD accessible area in the national park and is worth a stop.
It consists of old buildings which show what life was like back in the day. the entrance building shows project Eden, the restoration of the natural area. There are quite a few tracks which lead to different areas including the hot tub. They all join up so you should be able to see it all. The hot tub area also has a large lawn and BBQ facilities.
I enjoyed walking through the ruins of the old sheep yard. It was interesting to see particularly the wool station. We also got lucky and saw some emus walking around the area.
i thought it was quite an interesting stop with quite a lot to see and learn about.

Quite an interesting sculpture on the Denham Foreshore. I first noticed it when we were at the Discovery center but came back later to take a look at it. It is located close to the recreational jetty and fairly large so it should be recognisable. There are covered seats nearby as well as the playground.

Saint Andrew by the Sea Church is part of the Denham Discovery Trail. It is an Anglican church. Unlike most churches, this one is made from coquina, shell bricks. From afar it looks like a brick church but you notice the shell bricks are you come in for a closer look.
They do have a carpark at the back and does still have services. It was open when I went so I had a look inside. It was very quaint and quite interesting since it is really small.

The park is part of the Denham Discovery Trail. It is located on Hughes street, parallel to the main street (Knight Terrace). It is uphill so it does have a nice view of the area. The park was the old cemetery and now it has quite a few memorial stones as well as a war memorial. There is a set of covered seating by the war memorial. There are also a few interesting historical artefacts in the rear of the park. It was interesting to look at.
