What travellers are saying
- JackOld Bethpage, NY846 contributionsI went to the Sands Point Preserve for my birthday and I loved it! There are so many things to do and it was a beautiful day. First the main parking lot is huge with tons of spots available overlooking the beautiful main castle and cobblestone walkways. As you walk around there are many trails some of which that lead to the stunning beach with soft sand and rocks. You can even see Connecticut across the sound. There are huge rocks on the beach in front of a wall, which during the afternoon, provides shade. There is a nice gazebo next to a pond which was the perfect area to have a picnic in the shade. It was lovely. After that, we went to the Hempstead House. I was looking forward to this the most and it blew my expectations away. The house is an amazing representation of the Historic Gold Coast and old money on the North Shore. It is huge and overlooks the water with stunning gardens and a park with shady spots. There are other castles too which unfortunately you need tours for. Other than that, I highly recommend Sands Point Preserve. It’s great for families!Written 12 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- NewYorkFrancefanPort Washington, NY24 contributionsI am not an Episcopalian, but St. Stephen's has many community features. Don't miss their wonderful fairs, held a few times a year, their thrift shop and the annual performance of Handel's Messiah at Christmas, followed by refreshments in the parish hall. They also have programs for senior citizens. St Stephen's lifts my spirits!Written 24 July 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PerthDavidHPerth, Australia82 contributionsSeveral members of my family visited Port Washington for a family gathering to explore our connections to the town in early October. We arranged to join a walk along Main Street providing an historical narrative along the way conducted by CNPHS President, Chris Bain.
We began the tour at the town dock and finished about 90 minutes later. Chris provided so many insights about the long history of Port Washington. The tour also included a ‘guest appearance’ by noted Port historical identity, Mr Dodge, to reflect on the past from an ‘eyewitness’ point of view.
We joined one of the final tours of the season and bookings are advised through the Historical Society’s website. The tour was free and a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. Highly recommended if you wish to learn more about this community’s past.Written 19 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
