We found great results, but some are outside Newark. Showing results in neighbouring cities.

Newark Museum

The Newark Museum is astounding and so much more representative of people of diverse backgrounds and accessible than many of New York’s finest museums.
One of my favorite small museums

Grammy Museum Experience Prudential Center

It is not the kind of museum you would return to visit, but for the small cost and 2 hours of entertainment, it was worth it.

The National 9/11 Memorial & Museum New York City, NY 13.3 km away

Very tasteful and powerful museum with multimedia artifacts from 9/11 including real artifacts, tv/radio footage and photos make it one of the best memorial museums I've been too.
We always visit museums early and that is the sound advice I provide for any museum, but for this museum it is a necessity if you want easy access to the displays especially if you want to photograph them.

The gift shops have great items too, even though the prices are marked up (par for the course at museums and like locations).
There are many really unique things here that I haven't seen at other science museums (e.g.

... hat tour in Ellis island and also did the pedestal at the statue of liberty but if you want to just go to each island and explore and look at the museums you can do that for one price I think it's like $23pp.
I like peace and quiet when I visit museums, and it was just perfect, I got to be alone during most of my tour there.

I've been to Liberty Hall Museum on several occasions - Easter Egg hunt (three times!), special event openings (Travel Tour, Toys Tour), Trivia Happy Hour (the theme changes each month).
Great museum - a step back in history
Snug Harbor Cultural Center Staten Island, NY 11.7 km away

An oasis with Botanic Gardena, a tuscan garden, a working farm, 3 museums, 2 concert halls and a Chinese Garden is an underutilized gem.
The beautiful Greek Revival buildings are enough of an attraction in themselves, but they also house several first rate small museums.

Ground Zero Museum Workshop New York City, NY 13.6 km away
#6 of 313 Museums in New York City
One of the best museums I have been to, it rivals the Anne Frank House (and was inspired by it).
This museum is well worth a visit and Gary Marlon Susan deserves the highest accolade for capturing a highly traumatic event in American history.

New York Public Library New York City, NY 15.8 km away

The exhibit areas are free (unlike most NYC museums) and have excellent and interesting displays, mostly based on their outstanding book collections.
Possibly the best thing about this and other museums in NYC is just how clean they are, and how everyone is so helpful.
