We went to Chester as a Group of 6 and found Grosvenor Park, it's Splendid Tea Rooms and this Brilliant Miniture Railway which surrounds a natural lake with wildlife in attendance.
Chester is a beautiful city, one gem is Grosvenor Park, but a special treat for the kids is the mini railway, GREAT!

The stairs next to the video room go to the different floors showing silverware and art plus nature room which has some interactive tools that I think both children and adults will enjoy.plus
I would recommend this for a visit and it is easy to get to if using the park and ride buses.......these save a lot of messing around in the busy traffic trying to find somewhere to park.

close to pepper street car park, can be seen from the wall, you can walk through the garden from the shopping area in pepper street, down to the river, it was beautiful on a hot summers day, very interesting.
This park is interesting in the sence it has little remants from the times of the Romans that you can see and read about within the park.
