Montrose Beach doesn't receive the acclaim and notoriety of its more celebrated neighbors to the south, North Avenue Beach and Oak Street Beach. But in Chicago's scheme of things, the patch of sand and surf at 4400 Du Sable Lake Shore Drive, at Montrose Avenue, in the Uptown/Lincoln Park neighborhood, on the Lake Michigan shoreline, is the city's largest public beach. It also is the site of a bird and butterfly sanctuary and the home of the Corinthian Yacht Club, which has 711 slips for boaters, large and small. Montrose Beach also offers some amenities that other city beaches don't provide, like wi-fi, a dog friendly beach, a non-motorized boat launch, restrooms, showers, jet ski rentals, fishing, volleyball and kayaking and canoeing rentals, kiteboarding and the Dock, a full-service restaurant and bar. Not to mention a spectacular view of the Chicago skyline. Of course, most visitors prefer Montrose Beach for swimming and sun-bathing. The beach is open from 6 to 11 daily while swimming is permitted from 11 to 7 when lifeguards are on duty during the beach season which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Just the most beautiful cemetery around and full of so many important figures from Chicago history, US architecture and even sports. We all should be so lucky as to spend perpetuity in a place such as this.

The Swedish museum is like 2-3 rooms, but it is like walking through "Kirsten's world" from American Girl. It took me an hour or so and I recommend it, but if time is limited, you can also just look in the Gift shop for free, and that was huge. They had good candy there, including chocolate bars and REAL Swedish Fish!!

The Galleria had tiny little booths for many different craftspeople. There was jewelry and blown glass and cards and a million other things. The Ann Salter restaurant was quite the walk away, but it rounded out my visit with some Swedish treats.

The RAYGUN store has really funny t-shirts and stationary products.

I really enjoyed the shops and the feel of this neighborhood and I would like to go back to see what I might have missed.

Like most antique shops everything is always evolving. They have everything and anything including furniture upstairs. Modern artsy stuff to old ancient stuff. Fun place to browse even if you don’t want anything. It’s located on Broadway in Edgewater.

We had a great time here! The magicians were funny and very entertaining. There were two magicians during the main show and if you have premium seats you can see an additional show which I feel was worth it. You are entertained from the time you enter until you leave. Before the show, there are magicians who do card tricks while you wait for the show to begin. The venue was filled with nostalgic pictures and was really a nice size so that everyone was able to see up close. The audience interaction adds humor to the show. I would definitely recommend stopping here if you’re in Chicago.

Since 1978, when merchants around the intersection of Lawrence, Lincoln and Western on Chicago's North Side persuaded the local chamber of commerce to develop Lincoln Square, a pedestrian plaza that required a controversial rerouting of local traffic, it has become a popular destination for dining and shopping with a wide variety of restaurants and European-style shops. Bounded by Lawrence to the north, Montrose to the south, Clark to the east and Damen to the west, it is one of 77 well-defined communities in Chicago, which includes the Ravenswood residential subdivision and historic Rosehill Cemetery. In the 1830s and 1840s, the area was settled by Swiss, German and English immigrants who established produce farms. Later, the farmland gradually began to fill up with bungalows, two-flats and small apartment buildings. Two new developments, Ravenswood Manor and Ravenswood Gardens, attracted new residents. After World War II, empty storefronts spurred local merchants to find new ways to attract customers. In 1956, they erected a statue of Abraham Lincoln for whom the area and the major street were named. And in 1978, they developed Lincoln Square. Today, it is home to such restaurants as Cafe Selmarie, Luella's Southern Kitchen, Bourbon Cafe, Garcia's Restaurant and Artango Bar & Steakhouse and such attractions as Gene's Sausage Shop, Quake Collectibles, Ravenswood Used Books, Merz Apothecary, Conrad Sulzer Library, Book Cellar, Davis Theater and Old Town School of Folk Music.

Located up north it’s a great Brie for music shows. We saw Galantis - an EDM duo and show was second to none. Acoustics and space was ample and had good logístics. Bathrooms available and bars on all floors ... great place

When the conversation turns to cemeteries, most Chicagoans think of Graceland. But a little bit of research might change your mind. Rosehill, Graceland's sister cemetery, has all the trappings of Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC and Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. Located at 5800 North Ravenswood Avenue on the city's northwest side, in the Lincoln Square community, it is Chicago's largest cemetery with 350 acres. Founded in 1859, it is significant for several reasons. Start with Rosehill's Joliet/limestone entrance gate, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Marvel at the Rosehill Mausoleum, the largest mausoleum in Chicago with two levels, floors of Italian Carrara marble and stained glass windows designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. And the Horatio N. May Chapel with a blend of Gothic and Romanesque styles, a granite exterior and an interior appointed with mosaic floors. The list of distinguished burials includes several Illinois governors, Chicago mayors, generals, civic leaders, business tycoons, sports figures and celebrities. As a Civil War buff, I'm most interested in the fact that Rosehill is the burial place for 350 Union soldiers and sailors and at least three Confederates, including several members of the 8th Illinois Cavalry, which fired the first shots at Gettysburg, and General John McArthur, who helped Ulysses S. Grant avoid surrender at Shiloh. Rosehill has the distinction of being the largest private burial ground of Union veterans, including 16 generals and six drummer boys, in the state of Illinois. In fact, Rosehill opened its own Civil War museum in 1995. It highlights the roles played by generals and soldiers buried on the property and Chicago's part in the war.

I’m so glad they did something creative and sustainable with this area along the waterfront. The bird sanctuary has so many beautiful flowering plants for birds, butterflies and bees alike to forage and thrive.

There is a little path that goes through the sanctuary and doesn’t disturb the plants or habitat.
I was able to catch sight of many species along with a brown furry caterpillar too!

If you walk a little farther along the waterfront there is also the Montrose dunes.

We attended the tribute to earth, wind, and fire this past weekend, and it was absolutely fabulous. All of the artists are extremely talented, with a special bow to the character who played Philip Bailey. What a gift!!! This is our second time going, and I would recommend this to anyone. It’s extremely affordable, and they could honestly charge more. We loved it.

Free parking is around the block!
Ask at the front desk for directions.

The adult admission is $ 6 only.
Therefore you get plenty of information about the Swedish community and why and how emigration and immigration were these days.

The staff is very helpful and friendly!!

I do encourage you, to go there and visit this museum!

If you make it a quick visit and just browse thru the museum = you’ll make it out there under 45 minutes.
If you take your time and read most of the signs = it’ll take about 90 minutes.

    BTW:
There is a very good kids museum @ the 3rd floor!!

There really are no bad seats. Small theatre, beautiful, interesting history. Found parking down the street in a bank lot after hours. Would recommend this venue and return for another concert. Will keep an eye for upcoming performances.

I was hesitant to attend a show at the Riviera, but wanted to see Fitz and the Tantrums, so I stepped outside of my comfort zone and bought VIP tickets for early access. I was pleasantly surprised overall. The restroom (located in the basement) was clean, however the hole in the stall floor (missing drain cover) was concerning. The restroom attendant was amazing, she had that line MOVING and had a great sense of humor. The beautiful old school theater look has been maintained and updated for modern technology. Sound was fantastic! Overall I was impressed with the cleanliness and helpfulness of employees.
