Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The 606 is similar to the Highline in NYC where the trail is elevated on old train tracks. Love all the plants and trees lining the pathway. They were all well maintained and there’s a variety of plantings. Not very many benches to rest on the pathway but many street exits if you chose to explore the neighborhoods. Damen St in Wicker Park is perfect for drinks & a bite to eat. Just be careful when walking on the trail because there can be a lot of bikes. Definitely a nice alternative trail in Chicago besides the lakefront. Will be back!

My family and I traversed through this area before and after we went to Wrigley Field. This neighborhood felt safe, and it was very dense with pedestrian traffic and police patrols. It was difficult to find parking. There was an abundance of stores, of restaurants, and of bars. I admired the large number of apartment buildings which faced Wrigley Field. This area was extremely walkable.

My daughter enjoys swimming. We came to the point so she can enjoy swimming in the Lake Michigan. She said the water was very cold but clear.

Walk down the boardwalk along the Chicago river and find a nice spot across from the Mart building. We saw two shows (one of which was designed by Nick Cave) and I liked them both a lot.

We came to Chicago for many reasons but the street murals were one of them. We took so many pictures and were in awe of all the beautiful art! Great job Chicago to showcase your artists!

I think best place to see the Chicago skyline. I was there in the morning and had a beautiful blue sky. After I came out of the Adler Planetarium the weather changed but even that got a good photo.

Chicago's Navy Pier reminds me of St. Pete Pier in St. Petersburg, Florida, only much bigger, with restaurants, retail shops, museums, parks and numerous tourist attractions. Each has a front lawn of sorts that serves as the entrance way to the venue. At Navy Pier, Polk Bros Park is a 13-acre park that features the Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion, Polk Bros Fountain and the Polk Bros Performance Lawns, a pair of grassy plots with stages called City Stage and Lake Stage. The Pavilion is a 4,00-square-foot space with restrooms, seating areas, a 35-foot digital screen, LED lighting and a green roof. Located at 600 East Grand Avenue, the park is named after the Polk family, which owned a large appliance and electronics store. The fountain is a child's delight. It is 100 feet in circumference with 147 water jets that created parabolic arcs that expand and contract, forming tunnels that are the perfect size for children to run through in cloaks of mist emitted from the fountain's center. Opened in 2017, the park has hosted concerts, film screenings, fitness classes, ice cream socials, public art exhibitions and even the Chicago Shakespeare Theater's production of Shakespeare.

The Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable Statue on the north side of the DuSable/Michigan Avenue Bridge might be missed by busy pedestrians and tourists, but it is a must to see this monument to the Afro-Caribbean-American founder of Chicago 250 years ago. DuSable opened the first trading post along the river, and while another plaque notes that his homestead was nearby, it is now covered by urban development. Even so, one can look through the trees toward the river and imagine the new land he saw.

For years, during my daily walks around Lincoln Park and our Gold Coast neighborhood, I have observed the historic wooden block alley connecting Astor Street and State Street to the south of the Archbishop of Chicago's mansion that faces North Avenue and the park. The alley is 530 feet long and composed of wooden blocks roughly six to 10 inches long and four inches wide. In the 1850s, wood block streets started to be used in Chicago. The pavement would have been constructed by wooden blocks, filled in with gravel and sand and covered with coal tar. This wooden alley, which was built in 1909, was one of only two examples of this method of paving to survive into the 21st century in Chicago. The other, at the 2100 block of North Hudson, was paved over in 2018. Wooden paving was common in the late 19th century in Chicago because the city's large lumber market made wood much cheaper than other paving materials. The wood block technique was a derivative of Nicholson paving, a more durable method of wooden paving which replaced plank paving in many U.S. cities in the 19th century. By 1909, however, a decline in the lumber market combined with the increased durability of other paving materials such as concrete had caused the city to turn away from wooden paving, making the alley an unusually late example of the method. The wooden alley between Astor and State was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
