Chicago's Navy Pier reminds me of St. Pete Pier in St. Petersburg, Florida, only much bigger, with restaurants, retail shops, museums, parks and numerous tourist attractions. Each has a front lawn of sorts that serves as the entrance way to the venue. At Navy Pier, Polk Bros Park is a 13-acre park that features the Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion, Polk Bros Fountain and the Polk Bros Performance Lawns, a pair of grassy plots with stages called City Stage and Lake Stage. The Pavilion is a 4,00-square-foot space with restrooms, seating areas, a 35-foot digital screen, LED lighting and a green roof. Located at 600 East Grand Avenue, the park is named after the Polk family, which owned a large appliance and electronics store. The fountain is a child's delight. It is 100 feet in circumference with 147 water jets that created parabolic arcs that expand and contract, forming tunnels that are the perfect size for children to run through in cloaks of mist emitted from the fountain's center. Opened in 2017, the park has hosted concerts, film screenings, fitness classes, ice cream socials, public art exhibitions and even the Chicago Shakespeare Theater's production of Shakespeare.
