Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an excellent time to visit Cathedrals, as the summer weather often allows for more comfortable exploration and photography. A perfect time to appreciate their architectural beauty and historical significance.

Very beautiful Church right across from our hotel. During our visit in Chicago in October 2024, they were open till 330 PM. After we went inside and came back we noticed it is the church that was in the move " My Best Friend Wedding" with Julia Robert's.
    Interesting!

Located it the Cathedral District of downtown Chicago (not far from N Michigan Ave), St. James Cathedral is a historic Episcopal Church, that was founded in 1834. It is the oldest church of the Anglican Communion in the Chicago area, and it belongs to the group of 125 churches -- the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago.

Rebuilt after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the church later received the status of cathedral, formally in 1955.

Originally designed in Gothic Revival and Victorian architecture styles, St. James Cathedral is strikingly beautiful. The nave and sanctuary are very spacious, the architecture details -- arches, trusses, artwork, decorations of the walls -- are beautiful and exquisite, as well as the finely painted glass windows, that date back to the 19th century.

During my visit to the cathedral, I had a chance to see Spoken Eucharist (Noonday Eucharist) service, done on weekdays for the neighborhood community. I also talked to a custodian, who couldn't be friendlier, and gave me a printed brochure about St. James Cathedral, which is very informative and descriptive.

St. James Cathedral is also actively involved in hosting various cultural events -- concerts, special series, art exhibits.

My visit to St. James Cathedral was very enjoyable -- a visit to historic site, a place of worship, a center of cultural events. Thank You!

My first visit to a Baha’i temple was in 1999 to the Lotus temple in New Delhi. The architecture, material and the surrounding gardens pleases the eye and the mind. Though this is a different design, this is also a similar experience.

They have a visitor centre with some parking and some volunteers explaining the principles of the faith and the history of the temple. They also have a short film.

The temple has stairs on all sides. They have seating for about 500 people covered by a high dome. They maintain silence. The ambience is very good for practice of meditation.

The faith has good following in the Middle East. They have temples in all continents, each of which is a technological marvel.

We try to see different churches when we travel and were lucky enough to visit Moody Church when were passing through Chicago. The building is amazing and historical. Was told to try to be directly in line with the alter so we can sit comfortably for the 90 minutes (great advise). The people were welcoming and very helpful on our visit. The parking directions on the website helped in advance. The stained glass windows were amazing and highlighted by a brilliantly sunny day. The message was on point and kept me engaged. Only downside was the music. It was so loud it was like being in a concert. Made it difficult to engage.

Compact, modern synagogue located in the center of downtown Chicago. Try to visit in the morning on a sunny day, when the sun shines through the colorful stained glass windows. You might have to phone in advance to be sure the building will be open to public visits.

St. Stanislaus Kostka is a beautiful classical Roman Catholic Church interior with a massive alter. The icons and liturgical decorations are very Eastern European in style; understandable since this church still has Sunday services in Polish. A good place to visit; particularly if your family is holding a wedding service in this Chuch.

Pilgrim Baptist Church, which was built between 1890 and 1891, is notable for its glorious history, its architectural significance, its cultural contributions, for the people who spoke there, for the people who were eulogized there and for the people who sang there. Located at 3301 South Indiana Avenue, at 33rd and Indiana, on Chicago's South Side, in the heart of the Bronzeville neighborhood, it originally was constructed for a synagogue, Kehilath Anshe Ma'arav. A Baptist congregation moved into the building in 1922. Pilgrim Baptist Church is credited as the birthplace of gospel music in the 1930s. Thomas A. Dorsey, the Father of Gospel Music, was the music director at the church for decades. Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, the Staples Singers and the Edwin Hawkins Singers performed at the church. Bessie Coleman was a member of the congregation. The funeral for world heavyweight champion boxer Jack Johnson was held there in 1946. The champion of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., delivered sermons at the church. In 2006, the building was gutted by a fire, leaving only the brick and stone of the outer walls still standing and determined to be structurally sound. Reconstruction plans are ongoing. The congregation meets in a building across the street. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and designated as a Chicago Landmark in 1981.

Beautiful, intimate church in downtown Chicago. Attended Holy Mass as guest and very much enjoyed the experience. Parishioners welcoming of guests, peaceful service and great homily (by pastor of the church, father Joe). If you visit Chicago and look for a great church to attend Mass, consider going to Assumption Catholic Church.

If you are looking for a Catholic church in Chicago, this one is a great choice! The very welcoming parish located in the Lakeview neighborhood (near Wrigley), offers free parking. It is a beautiful church with a warm parish community. It is near restaurants so you can enjoy breakfast after Mass.

I'm not Jewish but I once attended a wedding in Temple Sholom. It was an awe-inspiring experience to stand in such a magnificent structure, like attending a mass in Holy Name Cathedral or sitting in the Senate Chamber of the U.S. Capitol. Located at 3480 North Lake Shore Drive, it is one of the oldest and largest synagogues in Chicago with over 1,100 member families in the Reform Jewish congregation. The synagogue was founded in 1867 but the current building, whose design began as a 1921 assignment given to three students at the School of Architecture at the Armour Institute, now the Illinois Institute of Technology, was completed in 1928. The library of the Byzantine Revival and Moorish Revival synagogue holds 6,000 adult books, 2,000 children's books, 300 videos and 30 journals. Jewish art is displayed in the Mendelson Gallery. The current Senior Rabbi, Shoshanah Conover, is the first female senior rabbi in Chicago and only the eighth and first woman senior rabbi Temple Sholom has had during its 153-year history. Curiously, the western wall of the 1,350-seat sanctuary was mounted on wheels so that it could be moved, opening the room into the adjoining social hall and almost doubling the capacity. Artistically, Israeli artist Nehemia Azaz was commissioned in 1972 to create five stained glass windows representing selections from Job, Proverbs, Psalms, Ezra and Nehemiah. In 1996, Leo Golub was commissioned to design four stained glass windows to depict the life of Joseph.
