- GillG767Glasgow, UK186 contributionsThis was a bit different from the usual hop-on hop-off tours we normally take when visiting cities. It wasn't the usual information commentary, it was done more as a conversation between two people and included multiple choice quizzes etc. It was a bit cheesy to be honest but I expect it would be more fun for families with younger children. I prefer when it is live commentary rather than recorded, but it was fine for learning the basics about Chicago for my first visit there. I enjoyed the route it took, it covered all the places I wanted to see and it was a lovely clear day to ride up top (bit chilly but I was prepared for that). I especially enjoyed the trip along the shore out to the planetarium, as well as the circuit it did within the city. We took a family trip to visit friends and it was my boyfriend’s first time in Chicago so I booked this for us and my college aged son. The weather was absolutely horrible but the tour was so good that we sat outside in the freezing rain, under inadequate umbrellas, because we didn’t want to miss a word. We were frozen and completely soaked and it was worth it. I had never taken this tour and I plan to do it again next time I’m in Chicago, hopefully in better weather. Our guide was amazing and I felt like we all learned so much. I highly recommend this tour. You will not be sorry. - AB88842 contributionsWe were able to book a city tour within a time slot of our choice. The process of booking and the tour itself was smooth and remarkable. Given the freezing temperatures on the first day of December in Chicago, the time for photo stops was ample. This city tour was a great way to acquaint ourselves with the city. Shout-out to Rick for being an amazing and jovial guide. He answered everyone's queries and his historical as well as funny tidbits about Chicago were what made the tour quite enjoyable. - Dreamer4664291 contributionThe Gangster mini bus tour was great! Matthew, our tour guide had amazing stories and was so entertaining! We took the 6 pm ride. So glad we did the bus. Would have been quite cold to walk. He allowed for a few stops off the bus with a great photo spot for the city lights. Was the perfect night activity for teens and adults! Keith was an excellent driver. - TraceyC62Burpengary, Australia164 contributionsAn introduction to Chicago and a great cruise. As usual, the hop on hop off bus is a great way to get a feel and orientation to the city. The only downside is that it doesn't start to run until 10 am, so it does limit your time a bit getting around.
We liked the cruise very much and departed from the dock across the river from stop 1. Two hours was just the right length and the best part was talking to actual CFD firemen and getting a tour of the working firehouse. We got to sit in the engine and take all the photos we wanted. Deen was a great guide and made sure we got to visit lots of additional Chicago landmarks during the tour. The tour guide - Chris, was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun, interesting and informative. He could answer everyone's questions and steer his presentation to the people on the tour seamlessly. We explored some interesting neighborhoods we have never been to. Eg. Prairie Historic district. We had very good fall weather during our tour. What would have made it interesting is going to the haunted 12th floor of the Congress hotel. (Our meeting place). We wish there was more to see of the HH Holmes murder Castle.
