Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Mrs. J1 contributionI have enjoyed the pools/baths and a massage last year and recently returned to buy a gift card for a friend. There was an issue with my purchase (gift card) but upon speaking with a manger it was worked out.
I appreciate being able to voice an issue and be heard. Not just get an empty apology, but really be heard. Many (luxury) houses tend to take customers for granted and operate as if our satisfaction or networks are inconsequential. Often times they make blue collar people feel insignificant. In my experience 2-3 times now, everyone is treated the same and they do care about all of their customers. The locker staff have always been helpful and the guides have been cheerful and set the tone for the experience.
I was happy to see they expanded massage services. At one point you could only get 45 minutes. Due to my recent interaction with a supervisor and past services, I can definitely recommend Aire. With the expanded massage (and other spa) offerings, I now prefer Aire over my regular visits to Waldorf and Langham spa’s.Written 6 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The staff was very professional. We can't wait to do it again. - TravelathonPalm Desert, CA149 contributionsLoved the treatments and the major pampering by a well trained staff. The Diamond mani/pedi is unbeatable. Prices are sky high, but we wanted to have the lap of luxury feel on this particular day and we got it. Only negative, they charged us room service prices for some mixed nuts (no snacks available other than chocolate). That was kinda lame guys.Written 20 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Diane E1 contributionHad Tammy for a classic pedicure. She did a great job making me feel welcome. She was professional but friendly. Did an awesome job taking care of my feet. I went to her last year around this time and came back to her because I knew she’d take good care of me.Written 16 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Little Time In a Big WorldChicago, IL16 contributionsI'm not sure why I didn't come here sooner because it was such an amazing spa experience! I only got a 50 minute massage, and my therapist made the most of it (but I'll make sure to book a longer session next time!). Also, the bathrobes are the softest I've ever felt! The kicker was the extras too like we were able to order the in room dining menu to the spa, the service is unbeatable! I can't wait to schedule another, much longer service lol.Written 19 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Susie VChicago, IL8 contributionsThe new facility is definitely an improvement from the last. The new hot tub and pool are LOVELY. The massage itself was fine, very relaxing but I wouldn't say amazing, BUT the service overall was wonderful and the staff took such nice care of us for our friend's birthday. Michael specifically went above and beyond. We will be back!!Written 21 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - fitginger60 contributionsTL;DR
*The facilities are awesome, the staff is very helpful, the massage was good too. Will be back and plan to bring my husband along as well!
Facilites
*Pros: public areas are well appointed and expansive for a city hotel. Massive gym with peloton bikes. Large jacuzzi. Large lap pool. Dramatic water features in the communal spa waiting area provided soothing white noise. Light snacks and flavored water were a nice touch (there were yogurt pretzels and bananas chips with watermelon water when I was there). Women's locker room had great bones: separate dry sauna, wet steam rooms, rainfall showers, heated lounge chairs. I didn't get to use as I'm pregnant but I really enjoy the different types of heat humidity combinations.
*Cons: First is that the only hot drink available was caffeinated tea. It's freezing out. I wish they would have had a decaf option as I'm pregnant and avoiding caffeine.. being Asian inspired I was surprised they only had one tea option. This is a really easy fix. Second issue in my mind is also an easy fix. They don't have many toiletries in the women's locker room. No deodorant, hair spray, combs, hair ties, or really any extras. I did ask for a razor and one the nice attendants got me one. Also their skincare products are really lacking. The showers have body soap and shampoo/ conditioner and there is body lotion and mouthwash on the sink counter but no facial soap or face lotion.. something even gyms like Equinox supply. It's a must in the dry air of Chicago winters.
Massage
*Pros: I had the prenatal 80 min massage. Good pressure and varied bed positions to accommodate a big baby belly.
*Cons: Timing was a bit truncated, but the front desk was very professional and provided a small discount so no real complaints. (Backstory is that they walked me back right at 5:45p, but spent several minutes discussing the benefits of a $45 Chinese medicine add-on.. that I didn't want.. at the end of the massage I didn't see a clock right away but 1) I got dressed, 2)waited for the massage therapist to bring a water, and then 3) walked back to the women's lockers and it was just 7:05pm when I was getting back to the lockers.)Written 14 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Conny WylieOttawa, Canada1,016 contributionsThe Waldorf Astoria Spa is housed in the sultry Gold Coast Chicago hotel of the same name. This 14000 sq. ft. spa facility offers a range of personalized massages, body regimes and beauty treatments.........with the emphasis on personal. The spa is graced with an assortment of treatment rooms; gender-separate locker rooms with jacuzzi's, sauna's and steam/hammam rooms. Enhancing this wellness space is a heated, inviting indoor pool, a state-of-the-art gym and a health club that offers Pilates, Kickboxing and more. I'm not a spa zealot but after my unruly flight, a massage was in order. After an audit of the spa menu, I opted for the Himalayan Salt Stone Massage. I don't know why the salt has to come from as far away as the Himalayans but it sure did the trick..... my aches subsided and I felt rejuvenated and pampered.Written 20 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - av01bpsDetroit, MI62 contributionsWhat a lovely way to spend an afternoon! Jacqueline (scrub and a fabulous facial) and Fran (massage- great cranial too) are kind and professional. The spa is clean and soothing. All of the staff were warm as well. I will definitely return!Written 15 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Michael T41 contributionsA chair massage here is great for the back! If your flight is delayed, there should be plenty of time, but usually they have a back log and more then 30 min wait has been my experience. I also notice a definite lack of enthusiasm on behalf of the receptionists here, kinda like they are doing you a favor, more straight to the point, borderline passive aggressive.Written 19 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ErwinkaChicago, IL111 contributionsMy daughter and I have done a girls' spa day here for the past several years. The massage therapists are first-rate. I have never had a deep tissue massage anywhere else that compares to here. Other reviewers' complaints are valid...the manicure area is very small, and they do not offer gel manicures, which seems odd (the technicians agreed). The relaxation area is indeed a passageway to treatment rooms, and can get a bit crowded and loud. I can't imagine finding a more warm, friendly and considerate staff, however. The pool and locker room are immaculately clean, and it is wonderful treat to sit out on the terrace above the bustle of Michigan Avenue.Written 10 April 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I recently tried their Thai Deep Tissue massage, and it was incredible I felt totally refreshed afterward. If you're looking for a great massage experience, definitely give them a try for some serious relaxation.Written 9 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
