Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Big bear lake is beautiful and Idyllic town, however bathrooms can be very scarce. No one really offers Public restrooms so it is something that you should keep in mind. Also this was a last minute trip so I prepared to pay a lot for a hotel and lodging. But in general this is a place you want to book early because it does fill up very quickly especially in the winter time and especially around holidays. To give you an example of what the prices were ranging in December 2021 I paid $800 for a Motel six. That was for two nights well other hotels were averaging $3000 for two nights. Amazing little local shops are great including the fact that they have a lot of tire repair facilities around because my tire pressure was low coming up from Chula Vista where the temperature was much warmer.

We love the Big Bear Zoo! The thoughtful way the animals are presented in their environment, and the information is posted makes it a great learning experience. Our only suggestion would be for more signage in the Nocturnal Hut. We were sure what we were looking for or at. But the Zoo was clean and so attractive, and the Gift Shop was a hit!

On a Saturday in February, it is crazy crowded and lines are very long. Also, my Costco pass had problems and the people in guest services were not super helpful - I lost a lot of time there. (Everyone else in my party was fine with their passes.) I wanted to give a special shout out to Stu, the lift senior manager who was working the beginner lifts. He was so helpful and saved what had been a very frustrating day and experience. Thank you Stu!

We've ridden the alpine slide many times and enjoyed it. Today, three of us literally flew down the mineshaft coaster. Everyone from ride attendants to the quality of the operation was impressive. Yes, I do believe for a single ride it was expensive. But for the unique experience it was worth it. To all of us. So much so that my wife, who was quite hesitant on the alpine, allowed herself to ride almost full speed ahead on the coaster. No matter your speed you still felt safe and in control. My wife wanted to go again but a local TV station filmed after our first run and we couldn't wait for the ride to reopen. Bummer. Next time with more friends.

Great hike and a bit challenging in some places…definitely not for those who are sedentary. Amazing view at the top and very peaceful. Great for a picnic

Nice little park. Seemed to be a lot of people enjoying the water. Would like to try kayaking there if we ever go again.

Nice village right by the lake. Tons of local shops, some restaurants and rental businesses. Lovely town to spend a day in winter

We normally stop in to the visitors centers of new cities we visit. Did here as well. Not too much information available. Area map and there was a rep there to talk to. She was helpful and efficient - spent about 10 minutes here and hit the road.

A very easy and fun walk along the north shore of Big Bear Lake. The trail is paved and so very easy to navigate. Many cutoffs down to the lake.

A great hike with moderate elevation gain. It faces south so can be hot on a summer afternoon. I imagine that it would have less snow and ice than other hikes in the winter and spring.

It took me 65 minutes to reach the junction with the Pacific Crest Rail (PCT).

I liked using iNaturalist to identify plants on the hike. In summer, the Fremontodendron shrub offers spectacular yellow flowers.

There is one long straight boardwalk. One can take the boardwalk along the lake and see some birds and fish. If lucky one can see some eagles.
