Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Les De QUtrecht, The Netherlands2,482 contributionsBoulders Bay Penguin Colony is an absolute must for anyone visiting the area! Arrive early to avoid the queues and make the most of the peaceful atmosphere. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see penguins up close in their natural environment—truly a unique experience.
Be sure to walk along the outside of the main viewing area, where you can spot penguins nesting in the bushes. It’s fascinating to see them in different stages of their life cycle.
The gift shop is a treat, offering a great selection of penguin-themed souvenirs to remember your visit. While there aren’t eating options inside the complex, the nearby street has some good restaurants and cafés worth checking out.
Highly recommended for a memorable and educational experience!Written 13 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Well worth paying for, there are so many penguins!Written 3 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - teapot2ontourPlymouth, UK9 contributionsThis is an incredible insight into a fabulously presented Submarine.
Launched 1969, decommissioned 2003, and brilliantly saved on her dry land cradle.
Our guide John, a former serving mariner for SAS S99 ASSEGAAI gave us a most comprehensive tour of the vessel and many interesting stories about the 'lifestyle' one can imagine working with 50 crew, up to 300 metres below the surface.
This is a 'must do' for Simon's Town and Boulders Beach penguins, in the superb Cape Of Good Hope National Park locality.Written 14 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My partner an offshore diving supervisor enjoyed the diving exhibit showing how naval divers pioneered the industry. Staff were friendly but I suggest checking loadshedding times as your access is restricted to the upper floor for visibility and safety.Written 3 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Maggi S16 contributionsWe came to Cape town and our guide Francis took us to this restaurant on the way to see the penguin beach. My sister is the pickiest eater and they accommodated her needs. Staff was friendly. Food was excellent and fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant! The views are spectacular and it’s an inviting place to go with your family.Written 1 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrew Morson9 contributionsWe came here with Dive Team, it was our first shore based diving and we can highly recommend this beach. I was easy to enter and navigate and the Kelp forest were amazing. We were very surprised when we found out this was where the Octopus Teacher was filmed and made the dive even more special.Written 25 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Corne LBellville, South Africa232 contributionsMust go back again and again and you'll see something "new" each time. Only R 10 entrance. Lots of different types of toys from over many years collected by the friendly owner. A must visit but please parents see that your young kids behave inside.Written 28 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Annalien PBronkhorstspruit, South Africa338 contributionsI've been to Simons Town before and never knew about this museum. I visited the toy museum and accidentally ended up at this museum that is in close proximity of the toy museum. I never realised that people were evicted from their homes in the apartheid area in Simons Town. I only knew about District 6. Our guide was most friendly and helpful. She shared so much information with us in the short time that we spent with her. She is super passionate about her families history. The photos and displays are very interesting. I recommend that everyone should visit this museum to understand the history of our beautiful country so much better. Well worth a visit.Written 5 September 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
