Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- doodlebugakjSeattle, WA1,444 contributionsCould not believe the different levels of blue in the water. We walked the beach and loved all the activities going on. - Tink-n-PeterEllensburg, WA43 contributionsThe was the best opportunity to purchase souvenirs of our trip, and some of the booths benefited local charities. Soap, sarongs (pareu), notecards, shirts, jewelry, and lots more. We learned that not all the items for sale are actually from Rarotonga or the Cook Islands. Food and fresh coconuts. Be prepared for a line at the atm. Parking was messy, but there were plenty of spots on the main road a short walk away.Written 30 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KerirexAuckland, New Zealand61 contributionsComing towards end of season so not so many food trucks, stall to choose from, however, what was there was fabulous. We sampled a couple of dishes and were not disappointed. We chose our food by the length of the people waiting in line!Written 26 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LonesomeAnnieLouisiana44 contributionsThis review is for one of the accommodations associated with the Maire Nui gardens.
Maire Nui Beach Bach is the most darling 2 bedroom cottage, with a stunning private garden leading down to a beautiful white sand beach and turquoise lagoon.
On our arrival there was a chilled bottle of wine and fresh tropical fruits waiting for us. Bouquets of fragrant tropical flowers had been placed in each room. Fresh white towels, cotton sheets, and cooling fans were a feature in the bedrooms, which both opened into the garden and had views of the lagoon.
Hinano was our lovely, warm, attentive hostess who gave great advice about where to swim, where to eat and generally made sure we were well taken care of.
The home is spotless and had everything we needed, including uv filtered drinking water, a safe, a washing machine and both indoor and outdoor bathrooms. Taking a cool refreshing night bath outdoors under the stars, listening to the sound of the waves on the reef was a unique experience I will always treasure.
An outdoor covered patio with dining set, barbecue grill and sun loungers on the lawn completed the set-up for a relaxing holiday. Snorkel sets were also available for guest use, and I noticed a folded up portacot in the house, which could be handy for those traveling with a baby. There was also a sandpit with children's toys in the yard. Oh and you could order room service from the Maire Nui gardens cafe! The lemon meringue cheesecake - just unforgettable.
Parking is free on site, and another plus there were hardly any roosters at all! If you know, you know. Location was handy to restaurants, a gas station and convenience stores as well.
Does it sound like heaven? It was. Highly, highly recommend if you need a place to make you forget about all your troubles and start living the dream life.Written 6 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My husband and I (53 years old) hiked from the carpark to the top and back the same way to the car. It took us 3 hours total but we went slow due to my bad knee and stopped for pictures and spent about 30 minutes at the top. We didn't do the chain at the top because the wind was blowing very hard.Written 26 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - owleseyRolleston, New Zealand992 contributionsNot only is it the abundance of sea life....including the odd turtle....it's how age friendly this part of the lagoon is. I had my 80+ mother with us, and this part of the island was so easy for her to get in and out of the sea, and some many fish to see without having to go out deep.Written 9 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Voyage293242052142 contributionsWe loved the old CICC building and the Sunday service that we attended there when visiting the island. The church is decorated with colourful stained glass windows, which were open to a cooling breeze and a view of "the needle". The enthusiastic harmonised singing of the congregation was wonderful and it was fun to see the different groups of locals egging each other on. Everyone was welcoming and friendly and we were invited to share morning tea with them after the service. All in all, it was an uplifting experience and the perfect way to spend our last morning on the island.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
