Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Voyage293242052142 contributionsWe loved the old CICC building and the Sunday service that we attended there when visiting the island. The church is decorated with colourful stained glass windows, which were open to a cooling breeze and a view of "the needle". The enthusiastic harmonised singing of the congregation was wonderful and it was fun to see the different groups of locals egging each other on. Everyone was welcoming and friendly and we were invited to share morning tea with them after the service. All in all, it was an uplifting experience and the perfect way to spend our last morning on the island.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stacey M2 contributionsCafe food was delicious and well-priced. Museum was informative and interesting, and not too overwhelming (I spent a good 30 minutes there). Staff were friendly and helpful. - mjoy9349 contributionsThis place goes by "The Chocolate Factory" and the sign is easy to spot on the main road in Muri. The owners are very passionate about trying to establish cacao farms on the Island to export chocolate, to provide jobs and income for people in Rarotonga. This was quite an interesting experience - the tour involves walking around the yard and seeing cacao and coffee at different stages of growth, and tasting as well. The tasting tour includes tasting lots of very, very dark chocolate, as well as and chilli vodka. They sell both as well as vanilla extract. A very unique experience - they also offer farm tours.Written 12 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kenneth T10 contributionsThe small museum is actually a wing of the library on Rarotonga. So much information and artifacts relating to Cook Islands history and thr culture of the islands.
Unfortunately photography was not allowed within the museum, so I had to take handwritten notes and sketch the artifacts. However, out in the library section, there more items on display and they COULD be photographed.
For a 70 year old visitor from the Sonoran Desert of North America (Phienix, Arizona, USA), the cultural knowledge of the Cook Islands was mostly new to me. However the humidity and lack of circulating air (no AC nor even fans) made me uncomfortable after an hour inside the museum.
Overall I'm glad I went to the museum, learned much, and it was worth the walk from the bus stop on the main road.Written 11 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It doesn’t look like much from the road front but it has a heap of information about Cook Island history (particularly marine related) and the sea life around these islands. There are a few live animals (a coconut crab, fish and a touch tank) to look at as well as other exhibits. It was $15 per adult and $12 for kids when we visited.Written 13 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KiwishellBuckinghamshire, UK32 contributionsA great local Catholic Church with Sunday Mass services to suit everyone. Very welcoming congregation. Kids went off to Sunday School and reported back as to what they had learnt too. Fantastic singing. Windows and doors were open for great ventilation.Written 21 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Denyse WWellington, New Zealand96 contributionsIf you are interested in local history then this is worth a visit and gives you an understanding of the Ariki on Rarotonga and particulary of Pa Ariki of Takitumu. We took the full guided tour and were there for over an hour. At $25 it was probably at the pricy end but there was a cheaper tour for $18 which didnt include the native and medicinal plants and a browse with no tour for $10. In hindsight the $18 tour would suffice, certainly just browsing does not enable you to get an understanding of who the people were and how they connected.Written 15 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cheryl BWellington, New Zealand13 contributionsLike many museums in small countries this one is also small. However the building is relatively spacious and the exhibits presented well.
The exhibition on missionary activity was interesting (sequential development on each island) and I loved the beautiful kumete (bowls) nearby.
I was a bit hot from walking around this precinct so my visit was short due to a need for a swim but it was useful and I learned some new things about the Cooks.
Definitely worth a visit but don’t expect a Te Papa experience.Written 30 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Love the passion the brewer had for making a crisp clean beer. Impressed by all the eco friendly methods they have embraced and use on a daily basis.
