Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- dhutchison55Wellington, New ZealandQuite reasonable value. The car was hired as a medium car but we ended up with a Toyota Vitz for 4 people and luggage. In fairness, the people and luggage requirements specified were met by the Vitz, I was just fooled slightly by the word "medium". At least one other rental car company on Rarotonga specifies a medium car as a Toyota Fielder or similar. The car was a 2010 Vitz with 140000km on the clock. It was scuffed, tired but was reliable and never let us down. A flasher car would not have suited jumping back into it from a day at the beach.
When we turned up at 10pm we followed the instructions to search for the car in the airport rental carparks 13 to 22. Needless to say it was raining (heavily) and the car wasn't there. I went back into the terminal and approached a very nice lady working for the airport who rang the firm's manager. It turns out there was no room at the airport so they'd left it at the Rarocars office across the road from the airport. This was only another 100m away but it would have been good to have been advised this on the pickup instructions (even as an option if we couldn 't find the car in the airport carpark).
Basically the car did what was required. The pickup was the only negative point. We had a lovely holiday and have some wonderful memories. The car carried us around without problems and that is all we needed from it. If you are concerned about looks, you could pay more and go to one of the other providers. The car had an Island Rentals sign on the back so presumably they own Rarocars or there is a close connection between the two firms. If you want the car in photos, I'd probably book somewhere else!Written 3 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Truly grateful for Raro rentals who accommodated our needs for a van very last minute.
The price was affordable and cheaper than airport shuttle costs quoted to us and communication was clear and efficient.
I gave 4 stars as the van we did receive for our trip did not have a drivers sun visa for sunglare and tyre's pressures were considerably low and petrol was returned as full tank vs the half tank we received when picked up from airport.
Despite these, again the van did the Mahi it needed to so thank you again.

- CharlotteHamilton, New ZealandWe rented two scooters for our last week in Rarotonga. From the one next to the police station. As we received the bikes, one of the workers told us some tourists had crashed one of them before us. Which was evident with the gravel rash all over one side. We made sure to take full videos as evidence of the condition before driving away.
When we dropped them off, the same guy checked over the bikes and tells me he “doesn’t remember” one of those scratches, and was refusing to give my deposit back. With the amount of bikes I know for a fact they would not be able to remember every little scratch on every single bike. I had accidently left my phone at home so had to do an hour round trip to go and pick up my phone to prove it was originally there.
I did end up getting my refund but I would advise anyone to be cautious and make sure they film the WHOLE bike and any visible scratch, as these guys just rely on memory to withhold your deposit and potentially charge you your excess.Written 4 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Biking is a great way to get about, and allows easy access to the inner roads.
Check out the deals for longer rentals, at the time of writing it is very affordable to grab a bike for 7 days.Written 30 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We researched & spoke to other companies though weren’t too enthused by either their lack of reply or unanswerable questions. We had 6 dives in total with John as our instructor whilst completing our SSI advanced open water diver certifications. Some amazing dives in the natural lagoon passages which lead to the outer reef & sheer drop offs into the ocean abyss.
Don’t bother diving with anyone other then Patrick, Carina & John. They’re the real deal & combine safety & fun into a whole package. Thanks again team, we had an amazing time & will not hesitate to strongly recommend you as the best in the business on Rarotonga.Written 22 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you're new to the scooter, Brendan will take you out on a little intro drive to show you how to handle it. He will also help you become familiar with the local driving conventions before taking your test at the police station.
We had no mechanical issues with the bike the whole time, but Brendan is on call to help if anything should go wrong. Thanks again to Brendan and Kimmy at BT Rentals!Written 11 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She pulled up in her car and started yelling at us and then followed us to a cafe where she proceeded to yell at us in front of the cafe owner.
She told us that she would take the bikes away at no return refund. I diffused the situation by apologising but admittedly it has left us with anxiety about using these bikes further.......
I would recommend that you support another hire company, unless you want to deal with a horrible woman.

Tiana has the talent to make everyone feel very comfortable and relaxed and free the spirit for some tiny adventure of making great photos and having a lot of fun while doing it. She is very creative and has great ideas of how a picture can turn out to be unique and at the same time is very open about your own ideas and wishes, the perfect combination :) We had a wonderful time with her and so much fun and are now rewarded with pictures of us we both love and will cherish forever and share with our loved ones and be rightfully proud of to show! Thank you so much again for the wonderful experience and the beautiful photos, your time, your imagination and hard work! I can only recommend Tiana with all my heart to anyone who wants an escape from the daily life and have long lasting memories from it in the form of breathtaking pictures!Written 20 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hired an e-bike for 3 days. It was 100% worth it. Especially with the cheap insurance and support you can get if you need it.
The bike hit 30km/hr which is perfect when the speed limit is either 30 or 50. About a third of the island is potholes (but i added extra padding with a towel). But the rest seems to be newly sealed.
I'm not a regular cyclist in any way. I just couldn't be bothered hiring a car and I'm cheap haha. Best decision i made and also a great way to see the island.Written 20 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
