Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- kiwisqurtWest Coast Region, New Zealand98 contributionsThe lagoon is fine. It was a bit cooler in the water than around the bays but there are some interesting fish to watch while snorkelling and if you're taller you can walk from the beach to the islands through the water. There can be quite a strong current but it's a good place for exercise on a paddle board, kayak or one of the wind activities. The view is pretty but it can be quite windy.
There are a lot of dogs around. Most are really friendly. The ones with collars have owners and the ones without seem to be communal strays. They could be quite entertaining.Written 10 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There was more variety of items compared to the local shops. Definitely worth a visit if you’re on the island on a Saturday!Written 14 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PaulGrummettSydney, Australia20 contributionsGreat food - get in early before the queues stack up. Pricing OK and very central to Muri. - SesJNelson, New Zealand82 contributionsBeautiful gardens - amazing to think that this was once just grass! There is an honesty box $10 per adult to walk around the gardens. The food at the cafe was absolutely delicious. Possibly slightly on the pricey side, but so fresh and generous helpings. We enjoyed our break in beautiful surroundings.Written 13 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DeanaEnumclaw, WA48 contributionsThe hike wasn't as difficult as I expected from other reviews. My husband and I (53 years old) hiked from the carpark to the top and back the same way to the car. It took us 3 hours total but we went slow due to my bad knee and stopped for pictures and spent about 30 minutes at the top. We didn't do the chain at the top because the wind was blowing very hard.Written 26 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KC-NZ1Auckland, New Zealand124 contributionsGreat place for snorkeling. We saw heaps of fish including some moray eels and puffer fish. Very safe and calm within the reef.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- owleseyRolleston, New Zealand940 contributionsNot only is it the abundance of sea life....including the odd turtle....it's how age friendly this part of the lagoon is. I had my 80+ mother with us, and this part of the island was so easy for her to get in and out of the sea, and some many fish to see without having to go out deep.Written 9 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Navigate097684189723 contributionsImpressive view and great contrast between the almost white beach and the black rock which divides the beach here. Almost invisible when you pass by on the road. Make sure to keep your eyes open. A small parking lot on grass and a few steps and there you are. Apparently this rock meant a lot to the ancient people living here.Written 17 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sandra B12 contributionsWas fortunate enough to visit Sunday service when travelling choral groups from outer islands were also visiting. The singing and indeed the whole service is a must do when visiting the Cook Islands!Written 26 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Fearless531238351868 contributionsI visited to have a combination of vacation, and get out section in Aroa cleared.Caught with family, abit shopping, etc.
Only issue was Jetstar losing one of suitcases, took three days to fly it from AUCKLAND, so much for paying an extra 20kg for extra bags. Also never got told who removed and took my padlock off my bag.
Other than that take your insects repellent. ⁶Written 10 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
