Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a very beautiful beach, well maintained with nice soft, clean sand. Water too is clean but chilly in the winter months. Few adventure beyond dipping their feet in the water. Inexpensive in the off season.

The Tianya Haijiao Scenic Area is home to huge rocks, coconut trees, and crystal-clear blue water. This charming tropical coastal area has a rich historical heritage, going back many dynasties.

The growth of trees in the scenic area is not only charming but also strange in rooting and branching.

Pretty bay surrounded by lush tropical rain forest mountains as well as the Houhai Village. If you snorkel out to the point on the left hand side it is possible to see some corals (brain coral variety). I even saw a moray eel. The middle section of the bay it is possible to surf. But there is one almighty eyesore in the form of a giant quarry where there is regular blasting. The water is warm, shallow and calm in many places.

Dadonghai Beach is a nice, sandy beach with numerous restaurants and "beach bars" nearby (wouldn't really call these beach bars, more like tiny shops where you might be able to buy a beer or two). A few places offer sunbeds, but except for maybe one place that belongs to some hotel, the rest only have wooden sunbeds that are quite uncomfortable and somewhat dirty / old-looking.

Now, to the main point: you won't be allowed near the water if the weather is a little windy or it's after 6:30 / 7:00pm. Lifeguards will forcibly close off the beach with ropes. Having stayed at a hotel nearby, we noticed that the beach was closed off about 3-4 times a week. The beach itself is otherwise great for a swim.
